I Miss You ~ unedited

"No way." Your attention is pulled up into the quiet coffee shop atmosphere. Your eyes shockingly focus on a bundeled up brunette standing off centered in the middle of the room. Your genuinely confused by your ex's presence. I mean, last you talked Calum was going on tour. That's why you guys split up, neither of you could handle the distance. Seeing Cal, here of all places, its weird. You send him a small wave and a fleeting half smile. Calum moves towards your table, unsure of how to proceed. You close your books and sit up right, gesturing for him to take a seat. In all honesty, things were shit without Calum and seeing him made your heart race at the fact that maybe things could go back to normal between the two of you. You missed Cal so much it hurt so when he sat down and you talked to you as if nothing had changed, your heart opened and you fell even harder for the boy who left 6 months prior.

You sat there until the sweet girl working the night shift politely told the two of you that they we're closing and as much as she didn't want to make you, you needed to leave. Calum giggles lightly at the girls appolageticness towards two strangers. You look down at the pattern on the table and smile shyly, Calum still had the cutest giggle that made butterflies churn in your stomach. After quickly slinging your bag over your shoulder, Calum stands as well and leads you outside. He insists on walking you home, because its after dark. When you ask him why, he responds with a coy, "I can't let anything happen to you." It's his simplicty that raises a blush to your cheeks, luckily the dark hides your emotional state.

When you finally get to your front door, Calum stands awkwardly in the glow of your porch lamp, rocking back and forth on his feet, once again unsure what to do because he can't help it. You make him nervous and he loves every second of it. You take a step forward and initiate a hug that Calum warmly wraps you in You both stand like that for a while and when you pull apart, Calum has a question waiting. "Will you- Well. Um, do you want to meet up again? Soon." You nod, "Yeah, I'd like that." He smiles at your reponse. You unlock your door and open it, almost forgetting Calum standing there. You turn gracefully, hugging Calum one more time and lightly brushing a small kiss against his cheek. He blushes madly and you're so happy, you still have that affect on him. "Goodnight Cal." You whisper to him. He smiles and says the same, adjusting his beanie before heading home.

A week later, Calum is late.

He uncordinatedly rushes around his appartment, throwing on random articles of clothing and gathering as much of what he needs before rushing out the door. He makes it to his car and around the block when Cal notices he only actually has one shoe. He curses himself mentally and verbally before turning around to retrieve the missing shoe. By the time Calum finallly makes it to the coffee shop for his date with you, he is royally and utterly late. Calum parks as close as he can to the coffee shop on the busy streets, smiling when he sees you standing outside the coffeeshops doors. He reaches into his pockets for his phone but finds nothing, so with a sigh he moves up the street towards you anyways. His approach slows when he notices you on the phone. Calum had gotten close enough to catch the tail end of your conversation.

"I miss you, I do. Lately everything has sucked, I just. I don't know. I'm trying to say I still love you." Calum hears your words and his heart shatters. With that Calum turns around, not staying around for you to finish your call. So he leaves tears in his eyes, praying that you don't see him retreat. Because how could Cal of been so stupid, how could he possibly believe that you still wanted him the same way you did before. It had been so long, and of course Calum wasn't the only guy in your life. Ugh he feels so stupid and naive and even hoping that he could ask for a second chance. This probably wasn't even a date in your eyes, Calum had romanticized the entire thing. You probably just wanted to be friends. "Such an idiot!" He screams at himself. By the time he gets home, Calum's eyes are red and his head pounds from all the frustrated tugging on the ends of his dark hair. Calum's anger and frustration fades into exhaustion and sorrow as he shuffles through his front door. He doesn't bother going upstairs, he just stumbles into the living room and falls asleep on the couch.

"I miss you, I do. Lately everything has sucked, I just. I don't know. I'm trying to say I still love you. I really hope you feel the same. I don't want to make a fool of myself again. Um call me back when you get this. I really miss you, Cal." You sighed hitting the end button on your phone. You hold back tears begging yourself to keep it together. Calum wasn''t standing you up, not again. No, things were different this time. They had to be. After another fifteen minutes and no sight or call from Calum, you give up. After an hour and a half, Calum wasn't coming.

You wrap your arms around yourself, bracing yourself against the chill of the walk home. Tears had spilled over your eyes, but by the time you reached your flat your eyes were dry and your body ached from all the crying. You shurgged out of your wind bitten clothes and changed into the warmest pajamas in your appartment before curling up on the couch and falling asleep.

When Calum wakes up, the sun has set and his flat is cold. He trudges throughout the house, warming up the stale flat and finding aspirin for his pounding headache. Calum decides the only thing left to do is sleep. He weakly pulls himself up the stairs before collapsing onto his bed. When he rolls over, Calum sees his phone still plugged into the wall charger. Out of habit, he reaches for it to make sure that nothing has gone horribly wrong.

One New Voicemail.

Confusion knits itself in Calum's brow as he unlocks his phone and listens to the voice on the other end.

"I really hope you feel the same. I don't want to make a fool of myself again. Um call me back when you get this. I really miss you, Cal." Calum can't believe his ears. He must've listened to the message a thousand times before two things finally clicks in his head. He fucked up, and he needs to go see you. Now, he decides. With no indication of what time it is besides to setting darkness outside Calum races down the familiar road to your home.

Calum's nearly shaking when he knocks on your appartment door. He's desprately afraid that he blew his only chance at being with you again. Calum anxiously throws his head back and lets out a deep breath, when the door opens. His heart breaks when he sees you standing there. The messy hair, the tired eyes and gigantic sweatshirt swallowing your frame are clear indications of what he put you through. Calum's entire appolagy goes out the window, and the only thing that he manages to say are four words. "I still love you." You stand between the door and the hallway and your slightly confused, really hurt and still groggy from sleeping. "When you didn't show up..." Your sentence trails off and Calum knows exactly where you're going with this. He sighs and pulls you into his arms, holding you tight. "I got your message." He mumbles into your hair. He feels you nod underneath his chin and you enjoy the warmth that Calum holds.

You look up at Calum, you offers a small sad and hopeful smile. Both your hearts mend a little, so you deftly take Cal's hand in yours and lead him through your appartment. You remain silent as you make your way to the back of the appartment. You open your bedroom door and quietly climb under the huge duvet that covers your bed, your head resting softly on a pillow. Calum removes his jacket and shoes before climbing in next to you. He softly pulls you into his side, arm wrapped around your cold body. He lets out a yawn and you move your head to rest on his chest. You let out a yawn as well, your eyes fluttering off. "Cal." You mumble, moments before sleep. You can hear him hum, "I'm not going anywhere." With your eyes still closed, you can't place Calum's movements but they register when your hands interlock and come to a resting place on his chest. And with that, you sleep.
