Chapter 8: The Council

Once we got back to Fin's Monkey and I started unloading questions onto Fin.

"What is the council? Can they really make us be Abel's personal blood bags? Do they already have personal blood bags? Will we turn into vampires or werewolves if they bite us? What about you if you bite us would we turn into mermaids?" Monkey and I asked without allowing Fin to get a single word in.

"Hold up guys let me answer some of your questions okay." Fin states while rubbing the back of his neck. "Okay to start of the council is all the kings and Alpha as well as our first in command or Betas and our queens or Luna. You guys will be brought in front of us and give statements as to why we should allow you into our community and if we decide not to grant you permission, which I won't allow, then yes you can become personal blood bags or be sentenced to death. Yes you can become a vampire if they inject you with their venom. You can only become a werewolf if you are mates to one same with a mermaid. If anyone is turned against their will then both will be sentenced to death. The people of the town will also be present at the meeting and some may speak for or against you. There are about 500 mermaids, 600 werewolves, 800 vampires and 100 people who know of us and help protect our secrets who all live here. Any more questions?"

"Well I have one," I said quietly "Since I am your mate that means I am going to turn into a mermaid, how does the whole mate thing work?"

"Well if you accept me as your mate once we complete the ritual you will be able to shift into a mermaid. It's similar to that of a werewolf except we actually have to umm.. complete it in the water. A mate is short for a soulmate, we are two halves of the same soul and we will always feel drawn to each other. That is probably why you have noticed how comfortable and safe you feel with me already and why you had the urge to kiss me today." Fin said while trailing off quietly at the last part.

"Wait does that mean I could be mates to a werewolf, mermaid or vampire also since I know we haven't met everyone from town yet?" Monkey burst out.

Fin chuckled "Well yes you possibly could be since fate does have a strange way of bringing soulmates together."

"Okay this is just a lot to take in. God I hope it's not a vampire they kinda freak me out!" Monkey huffed while plopping on the couch.

Fin and I both laughed at his childish demeanor. "Well we better get some sleep if we are going to be meeting the council tomorrow" Fin stated before throwing Monkey a pillow and blanket.

As I followed Fin into the spare bedroom he handed me some extra pillows and blankets. As he went to leave I grabbed his hand and instantly felt sparks that made my whole body shiver. "Fin c-can you stay until I fall asleep please. Since this may be our last night together I'd really like to get to know you."

As Fin brushed a loose strand of hair behind my ear he whispered "it won't be our last night together I promise you that but of course I'll stay."

We snuggled into the queen sized bed and talked well into the night about everything from our family to our favorite color. I'm not even sure what time we fell asleep but I woke up to feeling his strong warm arms around my waist and his head snuggled in my hair while my head was on his chest right near his heart. I was so warm and comfortable I had almost forgot about the council meeting. Fin must have felt me tense up as he leaned his head away from mine while loosening his grip on my waist slightly. "Hey it's gonna be alright I'm not going to let anything bad happen to you or Monkey." He whispered while stroking my back.

"I know I'm still scared though we know nothing of your world yet here we are being thrown into it and frankly it's terrifying."

"I know but we will get through this together I promise."
