Autumn Leaves [Chapter 14]

A week or so had passed since I tried peeing on the stick to see if I was pregnant, which came out positive… I laid in bed for that whole week, I hadn’t seen Skip or Beau, I didn’t want to see them, the more I did think about them, the more I worried about whose baby it is and how im going to break it to the other person. Jai and Luke were starting to get worried about me, I could tell, they came and checked on my at least 6 times an hour.

“Sky, let’s go!” I heard Jai yell out, today was the day I would find out if Beau was the father of my child, or if it was Beau. The worst thing was, neither of them was going to be at the first ultrasound, but I guess neither of them knows, “Sky! Hurry up or were going to be late!” Jai yelled out snapping me out of my deep thoughts.

“I’m coming!” I half screamed back.

The drive was silent, I think Jai could tell I was nervous, Luke had gone to UNI today, he had a big exam coming up soon, I looked out the window at the scenery, golden, orange and amber leave coloured the yellow grass, the trees were bare, a light breeze flowed outside making the leaves dance, I smiled at my imagination.

“Here’s a hand, and there’s the head, oh and there’s a leg” the doctor motioned the body parts of my baby on the big monitor, “would you like to know the sex of your baby Miss.Partridge?” the doctor smiled, I wish he had called me Mrs.Brooks though. I nodded slowly. “it’s a girl!” the man cheered. I Skyla Partridge was going to have a little baby girl to call my own, I was going to be a mother.

“Are you Mr.Brooks, Beau Brooks?” The doctor then questioned Jai, he shook his head quickly, and “so you’re not the father?” the doctor questioned him again

“I’m his brother” Jai said quickly, eager to hear what the man had to say.

“Well you’re going to be an Uncle Jai!” the doctor cheered again, “I’ll give you to a few moments” he smiled before leaving the room.

Hold on a second, if Jai was going to be an uncle… that makes Beau the father! Beau and I are going to have a little baby girl together! Now only if he would come home to experience it! But how was I going to break it to Daniel… his going to be absolutely devastated. Some snapped me out of my thoughts, it was a drop of water on my cheek, it was raining inside? Impossible. I looked up to see tears rolling down both sides of Jai’s cheeks, “I’m going to be an uncle” he managed to say, a smile never leaving his face. “I’m going to be an uncle!” he half yelled this time earning a little giggle from me, he is definitely the cutest little brother ever!

“You hear that Jai?” I asked him, there was a small, frequent thud; he just looked at me confused, “it’s the baby’s heartbeat” I smiled back at him, earning one back.

“Sky, can I, um, feel your stomach?” he questioned me uneasy, I giggled

“of course you can!” he came over and place his hand on my stomach, there was a pain in my stomach making me wince,

“Did you feel that?” he screamed in concern, he was so worried

“it was just the baby kicking Jai, talk to her” I smiled I sat up and he knelt down so he was in eye level with my stomach, he put both hands on either side of my stomach and let out a deep sigh

“hey baby, it’s your uncle, Jai. I uh, just wanted to say hi you know, thought it would be nice to introduce myself” he started but the paused, “you’ll be able to meet me in about 7 months beautiful, I can’t wait. I’ll read you bedtime stories, and, and, I’ll take you out places with me, when you get old enough Ill even do your hair for you” Jai smiled at what he was saying,

It was later that afternoon I texted Skip to come over because I needed to speak to him, Jai and Luke went out to go get a celebration bottle of wine. I was sitting in the outside lounge room, I texted him to come through the gate, it wasn’t long until I heard the gate open and footsteps come nearer. “hey baby” Skip smiled cupping my face in his hands then kissing me, for some reason I felt for him more as a friend at the moment, I don’t know why the sudden change, maybe it was because of the baby?

“Hey… Skip” I said weakly, I could feel the nervous build up in me now.

What’s wrong princess?” he cooed, uh.

“I’m, uh, I’m pregnant” I said straight out, it was a bit cold but there was no other way to put it, a smile plastered his face, “the thing is, it’s Beau’s” I added in.

His face fell and he immediately got to his feet, and walked slowly towards me, each footstep echoing in my ears. He came so close until he was hovering over the top of me. I kept seeing my father’s face instead of Skips; he leant down a little and grabbed my jaw roughly. I let out a scream as loud as possible, it was the only thing I had learnt to save myself when my father would attempt to hurt me, he would back away, but Skip didn’t, he just added more pressure.  “you’re not planning on telling Beau about this are you?” Skip threatened

"Tell me about what?” I heard a voice roar behind me, Beau? “I think its time for you to leave, Daniel” Beau snarled,

Skip let go of my jaw pushing my head back at the same time, I felt a tear or two roll down my face, if Beau didn’t come, I don’t know what would have happened. I saw the shadow behind me, lurking over the top of me. “Beau, sit down please” I said softly not even turning to see him.

I closed my eyes tightly and when I opened them, there before me sat Beau, his intense green eyes just staring me down. “Were having a baby” I said before he could say anything, he eyes snapped up to meet mine, I could feel them burning a hole through mine,

“Were what?” he questioned me, I let out a shaky breath before repeating what I had said before

“Were having a baby Beau, and were keeping it” I said hopeful that he would love the idea

He opened his mouth and then closed it again, he looked angry. He walked over to the little steel garden shed and kicked it, leaving a small, barely noticeable dent. Then did it again, 1, 2, 3, there was now a very, large a noticeable dent. He didn’t want this baby. He was clearly upset about it. I got up and ran into my room, packing my laptop, phone, a few sets of clothes and my wallet into a large bag, I then went to the kitchen grabbing the keys to Jai’s car and walking towards the door,

“Where are you going?” Jai questioned, but I didn’t say anything, I just kept walking towards the car, chucking my bag in the back seat and then reversing out of the driveway.
