It's been a while since you had seen your brother whom you loved so much. You didn't know where he went, it was like he fell off the face of the earth; there was no way to contact him. The last you saw him was when he was fantasizing about proposing to his beloved girlfriend when they were on a vacation they planned. And of course you heard the terrible news about her, but not from Mitch himself, you found out through the news as it listed the victims' names. Once you heard about the shooting, you immediately called Mitch over and over again, but never got a response.

Mitch was all you had left of your family since both of your parents died in a car crash, and he completely isolated himself and it was as if you had lost him too.

There wasn't a day that passed by where you didn't think of him or where he was. You were heartbroken, how couldn't you be.

You walked out of your bedroom and into the living area of your tiny apartment in the city and scanned through all of the pictures you had with him on your mantle, something you did everyday believing that the more you looked at them, the faster he would come back to you.

You looked at a picture of you two building a sand castle on the beach when you were young and you felt a small smile creep onto your face. Mitch was four years older than you, but he felt like another part of you that you couldn't let go that easily.

As you did your daily scan, a loud knock coming from your door snapped you out of your thoughts. You quickly slipped a robe over your pajamas and opened the door expecting to see the mail man coming to deliver something. But you were wrong.

There, standing in front of your doorway, was Mitch. Your first instinct was to pull him into your embrace and never let him go, but instead you just cried. You let everything out that was hidden inside of you for years now right in front of him. "Mitch...?" You tried to get out in-between sobs. You noticed ther were bruises and cuts all over his face and it looked painful.

"Yes, Y/N, I'm here...I'm here..." He said and pulled you toward him. You cried into his shirt, but then felt a sudden burst of anger. You quickly pulled away and pushed him with your hands.

"You have no right to just show up here like this happens everyday! Do you know how I feel every single day? No you don't! You don't!" You yelled and backed up into your apartment as your eye contact never broke with him. He followed you inside and closed the door behind him. You could see the guilt and sorrow in his eyes.

"Well you don't know what I'm going through either!" Mitch yelled back as a flash of anger was seen through his eyes.

"Oh yeah? Then can you explain why you were gone and I couldn't contact you for four years straight?" You quickly responded.

Mitch's voice suddenly became quiet and he said, "That's classified..."

"Excuse me!" You said with growing anger. You took a deep breath and took a step closer to him. "Mitch, I think I deserve to know," you said calmly.

"Y/N, don't you think if I could tell you, I would?" Mitch replied.

"Mitch!" You said as the anger and disappointment came rushing back. "I was so lost without you and I've been so lonely" you breathed out.

"Didn't you have a boyfriend when I left?" Mitch asked.

"Had" you corrected him. "It's been four years since we haven't been together."

"That long?" Mitch whispered.

You scuffed and shook your head. "What happened to you Mitch? Where's this Mitch?" You asked him as you passed him a photo of you two laughing.

He took the picture and stared at it. A tear fell from his eye and he mumbled something under his breath.

You placed your hand on his shoulder and said, "I've missed you, I really have..."

"I missed you too, Y/N" Mitch let out a deep breath. "You wanna know where I've been?"

You nodded your head desperately and whispered, "yes..."

Mitch let out another breath and said, "I work for a secret group that protects people from terrorists...I'm the American Assassin..."

Your breath got shaky and it felt like the room was spinning. The first question that popped into your head you immediately said out loud. "Have you killed anyone yet?" You wanted to know, but at the same time you didn't.

"Yes," Mitch replied and you quickly turned your back to him and you covered your mouth. "But only those who need to be killed," he continued and placed his hands on your shoulders.

"I don't know you anymore...You're like a stranger..." You said and started to cry.

"I can explain-" Mitch started.

"No!" You yelled. "Now get out of my house Mitch Rapp! Get out!" You then quickly turned around and held up your hand to slap him, but you couldn't bring yourself to do it.

"I deserve it, just hit me," Mitch said calmly.

You shook your head and slowly brought your hand down. "Jusr leave..." You whispered.

And with that, he left and you never saw him again.
