~ [Evelyn] ~

"What's going on here?" I managed to say as my eyes darted between the wet b!tch in front of me and my boyfriend behind her.

"Ev! You're here!" Liam's face lit up as he made his way to me, but as his eyes followed mine to the wet woman before me, he pleaded, "It's not what you think!"

Funny how he went straight to assuming that I would think that way. Perhaps the situation was as questionable and there was something to be suspicious about. I wasn't thinking too much of it until he said those defensive words.

I stood there frozen and only as Grace bit back a smile and tugged her robe a little tighter did I move. I was fighting every fiber in my body not to run away right now.

No. I'm not giving her that satisfaction.

"Then what is this?" I asked calmly, ignoring the stabbing of my nails into my palm.

"The shower in my room broke so I was borrowing his," explained Grace, who began to pat her hair dry with her towel, "I'll just... head back to my room."

Biting her lip, she flicked her eyes back at Liam as she made her way past me out to the hallway. I remained frozen, glaring at Liam as I saw her unlock and enter her room next to his.

I wasn't sure what to think. I trusted Liam and knew he had better taste than Grace, but it seemed he had grown fond of her over the past few weeks of working together. The other day, he had even admitted that she was his only friend at work. I didn't have the heart to tell him how uncomfortable it made me, no matter how hard I tried to stay cool about it.

"Ev, I know it looks bad, but that's seriously what happened," Liam stepped in front of me, but instead of throwing my arms around him like I intended, I made my way into the room, past him, and sighed heavily.

I dragged my things and tucked them under a table in the corner before turning to see his worried expression. He was standing where he was before, without moving an inch, as if one wrong move would warrant a slap in the face.

"I'm just tired, okay? Let's just get some rest." I took off my coat and slid under the sheets. He didn't say anything, and as I glanced at his face, I knew he was probably afraid that if he said anything, it might make things worse.

As he wrapped his arms around me, I felt the moonlight shine into my eyes, but they stayed wide open for hours of uneasiness until I slipped into slumber restlessly.

There was no sun in the sky as my vision bounced. The breeze running through my long brown locks were cool, but the higher I went, the colder my fingertips became as my grip on the chains grew dangerously tight. I stared at my hand, releasing my grip for a moment only to find an imprint of the chains on them.

I turned my head to see at the corner of my vision Liam behind me, pushing me on this swing. I tried to tell him to push lighter, but he doesn't hear me and pushes me even harder. Every time I reached the highest point, I am taken by a feeling of being suspended in the air.

I noticed after awhile that this highest point was when I would forget about my worries of being pushed this hard on the swing. Slowly, I began to give into the sensation, allowing myself to feel the freedom and expect the safety.

That was, until I saw a shadow in the distance. It took a lot of focus to finally see the glint of blonde hair flowing down the sides of her face. Grace stood there, grinning at me.

It was as if she had caught me off guard, and this time, Liam pushed harder than before. Wind got knocked out of my chest as I flew straight up into the air.
