"Me and Anna met in our second year of junior high school when my parents decided to move here. Dad wanted to open a hotel here. Since then, we were inseparable. We were more like sisters than just only best friends. Since Nathan was in a boarding school at that time, she was the one I could always count on." She said, smiling at the memories.

"It only had been one month, since high school and we were invited to this big party. Mr. and Mrs. Robinson, Anna's parents didn't give her permission to go. She was furious. She wanted to experience high school and it's fun. Isn't that what we want at that time? We are bunch of idiots who are reckless." She said looking down at the floor.

"She decided to sneak out through the window. But James, Anna's dad saw her. She had a big fight with them and left the house. I remembered she said, 'I wish, I wasn't your daughter. I don't wanna see you ever again.' She got into the car and we left. She knew, she shouldn't have said it but she was angry at that time. We got to party. We danced, laughed and passed out. All the stupid things that are done at high school parties. But." Patricia started to sob and Jason hugged her tight.

"Anna's parents were lawyers. Both of them. They were working on a case at that time. There was a big club owner who was trafficking girls for sex business. Police got the news about it but no evidences were found. Soon, Anna's parents doing research on it and looking for evidences. Apparently, they found some and presented it to the court which got the guy arrested." Jason continued.

"That night when we were partying, they were killed. Anna's parents were shot by that guy's men. He sent those men to kill them to seek revenge." Tears flowed down Patricia's cheeks. "They got killed and we were fucking partying. But that's not the worst of all. There is still the cherry left."

"Our phones were somewhere lying around and we didn't know. People tried calling Anna, the police, the neighbours and Daniel. And we were passed out on the floor of someone's house far away, completely oblivious to the situation" she threw the coffee mug on the floor, crashing it into pieces. "It was almost like three or four hours later that someone came barging into the house, looking for Anna. It was Daniel, soaked in rain."

"He took Anna and me with him. We can't really remember what he said because we were wasted. We woke up in the morning, in a hospital. We were clueless to what happened. Then Daniel came in with some police officers and told Anna about her parents. She laughed at him. 'Daniel Uncle, it's your lamest joke. The rubbish one, this far.' She refused to believe him. Nobody would want to believe the news about one's parent's being dead."

"We were taken to the mortuary. There lying in the white sheets were the cold and lifeless bodies of James and Candice Robinson. Anna's cries and shouts still haunt me. Everyday, she regrets the words she said. Somehow, she blamed herself. Rain became her enemy, her fear. It was a rainy day when his grandpa died of heart attack infront of her when she was six." Patricia sighed. I raked a hand through my hair taking in all the information she was telling me. How hard it would have been on her!! I closed my eyes, her image flashing infront of me. Her smile, her laugh and then her tears!!! Why does the big man up, had to be so cruel?

"What a six year could have done? She showed enough sense by calling 911 but what more could she do? He died infront of her. She regretted that she couldn't save him. It was raining that day that took her parents away. But as if all this was not enough. James and Candice married against their parents, so Candice family cut all the ties from them. Only Grandpa Henry, James father supported them. She had to be sent to an orphanage because there were no relatives. She started going into depression. She detached herself from all of us. She would disappear in lunches, sit in the back during classes. We would go to meet her at the orphanage to be greeted by her fake smile. It felt torturous to me to see my best friend dying like this." She hung her head low, sobbing in her hands.

"Daniel was Anna's parents friend. His dad's high school friend and Anna's godfather. He adopted Anna. At that time, Anna couldn't really consider him as his father. Daniel had fights with her girlfriend over the decision that he took. His girlfriend was probably not very happy with the idea of adopting Anna. She asked him to decide between Anna and her. Daniel chose to take care of Anna and broke up with her girlfriend. Anna overheard all the conversation and that was day when he let Daniel in like a parent. Introduce him as her father, calling him dad in public. But she resorted herself to call him as uncle Daniel when alone."

"Daniel tried doing whatever a parent would do. But Anna's guilt was killing her from inside. Then came in Nathan." A smile appeared on Patricia's face when she spoke her brother name.
