Chapter Thirteen

Three hours and fifteen minutes we waited for Ignacia to wake up from her deep sleep. I mostly stared at the rise and fall of her chest. Mum had drunk five cups of tea by now and Liam and Harry took Fausto home as he had cried himself to sleep. Harry was slightly reluctant to leave but it didn’t take much to convince him. They both looked extremely tired anyway. Both Mum and I waited anxiously until eventually her eyes fluttered open. I reached over to Mum and shook her to make sure she was looking.

“Mum, I think she’s waking up,” I whispered to her as Ignacia blinked a few times. She stared at the ceiling for a while, then frowned and looked around. Her eyes settled on me and then Mum, then back at me. She didn’t say anything.

“Oh baby, are you alright?” Mum asked with concern evident in her voice. She reached out and touched Ignacia’s hand. Ignacia sent Mum a warm smile, her blue eyes glistening.

“I’m fine,” she croaked and sat up in bed. Her face was still drained of colour.

“Why were you taking drugs?” I asked straight to the point, a little too harshly. It wasn’t the hatred that was talking, it was the fact that I cared about her that my words came out demanding.

“None of your business, just butt out Emma! Why would you even care?” She glared at me, crossing her arms along her chest.

“Honey, don’t be like that. You gave us all a scare. Poor little Fausto wouldn’t stop crying,” Mum answered. Why she hadn’t mentioned herself crying or Harry’s major distraught I didn’t know but her mentioning Fausto seemed to soften Ignacia’s face.

“I- I know. I’m sorry Mum. Can I go home?” She asked quietly, sadness portrayed through her eyes. “I want to see Fausto.”

“The doctor wants to talk to you and after that if they say it’s okay then you can come home, okay?” Mum reached out and stroked Ignacia’s arm. She nodded to Mum’s orders.

Mum tried to ask her about the drugs again but Ignacia didn’t want to talk about it. So we just spoke about nothing really, well Mum and Ignacia did. I just kept quiet.

“Ah, so you’re awake I see,” Doctor Kennedy trotted into the room, the heel of his shoes making noise against the marble floor.

Ignacia sent him a weak smile.

“Well, I have a few questions to ask you to clear things up,” he began, a clipboard and pen still in his hand.

“Can we talk alone?” She asked. The Doctor sent us out of the room and closed the door behind us. We waited patiently outside.

They talked for over fifteen minutes before finally he came out of the room, shutting the door behind him.

“Well, I don’t see why she can’t go home. You can sign the papers for her and she will be discharged,” the doctor informed Mum, standing in front of her. Mum fiddled with her fingers nervously, afraid to ask what we all wanted to know. The doctor saw these signs and continued to talk. “As her parent, you are entitled to know what was said.”

“Please Doctor, has she told you why she took the drugs?” Mum’s voice shock.

“I’m afraid not but what she has told me is that she was unaware of it. But as I have said, she is free to go.” I didn’t believe him when he said she was unaware of it. I mean, she practically overdosed and not being aware of that is kind of impossible.

Mum seemed satisfied by that and immediately signed the discharge papers. She was just happy that her baby was fine. We hopped into the car and Mum drove us home.

~ Ignacia’s Point Of View ~

As soon as we arrived at home, I climbed out the car instantly. I knocked on the door, waiting for a while. Mum and Emma were waiting behind me and Fausto opened the door to me.

“Iggy,” he jumped with excitement and pulled me down to his level. His curls flopped to the side as he pulled. He flung his tiny hands around my neck and buried his head. “I love you, Iggy.” He mumbled into my shoulder. I could feel his eye lashes tickling my shoulders.

“I love you too, Fussy,” I replied once he let go of me. I flicked his nose and he giggled. Mum and Emma waited patiently behind.

I stood up and Fausto held onto my hand, pulling me into the house. He dragged me into the living room where both Liam and Harry were seated. Harry instantly stood up and flashed me a smile. Fausto let go as Harry advanced towards me, his arm stretched out. He pulled me into his embrace and I just stood there like a tree as he tightened his grip around me.

“Don’t you dare do that ever again, you had me worried,” he rushed, pulling me even tighter. He let go but placed his hands on my shoulder. I shrugged his hands off. It was sweet how he cared about me but I couldn’t help but do that. It was weird for them to care about me.

“Don’t touch me,” I mumbled before walking out the room and headed upstairs. I went into my room, shutting the door behind me and flopped down onto my room. I took a deep breath. Just as I closed my eyes, readying myself for a quick nap, someone knocked on my door. They pushed the door open and came into the room.

“Ignacia, please don’t push me away again,” Harry said softly as he came to sit next to me. I don’t understand myself. All along I’ve wanted someone to believe me and care about me and now I’ve got that someone, I’m pushing him away. I kept quiet. “What’s wrong?”

“Nothing, what makes you think anything’s wrong?” I turned away from him, staring out the window.

“Clearly, there’s a lot wrong. Look at you; you ignore everyone. You smoke, take drugs and God knows what else,” he pointed out.

“You don’t know me so shut up,” I sneered.

“Exactly, I don’t know you anymore. Please Iggy, talk to me. I’m trying to help you out. You know, like you did back in England.” His voice was sweet and genuine. I couldn’t help but turn to him, my insides melting. Did he care about me that much.

“Y-you really care?” I stuttered, almost as if this was a dream.

“I care,” he nodded in agreement. He reached out and held onto both of my hands. His hands felt so warm and comforting against mine. “Iggy, why did you take those drugs?”

I thought about it for a bit, just staring at our hands. He stroked the back of both my hands and waited. I could feel his gaze on my face, just waiting for the answer. I sighed and looked up again, glancing at his face briefly. His green eyes shone at me. It didn’t feel the same way that Liam’s gaze caused me to feel though.

“I wanted to kill myself,” I whispered quietly. I didn’t want him to hear me but at the same time I did.

“What?” So I repeated myself. “I heard you the first time. But why?” His voice became uneven towards the end.

“Because I’m worthless and nobody wants me.” My voice remained low but he could hear me. I felt his grip tighten on my hands so I looked up again, keeping my gaze on his face this time.

“Don’t ever say that, okay? You are not worthless. And there are so many people who care about you. Trust me Iggy, Emma loves you, she just needs time to forgive you.”

“You really think so?” My lips quivered.

“I really do. And Ignacia, I want you.” I didn’t know what he meant by wanting me but it didn’t matter because at the time he made me feel wanted. He made me feel the way I’ve wanted to ever since that day at the party. So without much of a thought I leaned forward and brushed my lips against his. He let my hands go and they made their way to my waist as he pushed harder onto my lips. My hands found their way to his neck and through his curls. They felt so soft, so…nice.
