Take the 'Dixons daughter' idea, there are plenty of books where the OC is Daryls daughter, adopted or not. And let's be real here, Daryls not that kinda person. He's not the fatherly type. Merle sure as hell ain't.
The pair aren't gonna adopt a kid either. That's just not them. They used to do drugs and get abused, adopting a kiddo, ain't gonna be something they wanna do.
Start it somewhere interesting where the OC can prove themselves to be a trustworthy person.
