In an Endless Sea [Chapter XXV: LEO]

Chapter XXV

LEO

After that creepy moment with Annabeth I walked up to the deck to see how things are going.

O____O

I was shocked.

Coach Hedge was looking right at me.

How'd he get here?

"Missed me, Valdez?" He said with a cruel smile on his face.

A smile that says, I'm so going to kill you.

"Hey, Coach. How are you?" I asked.

Did Annabeth tell him? or anyone of the crew.

"How was your night?" I know where this is heading.

"Where are you going with this, Coach? Give it to me straight." I said while I passed by him to go to the helm.

He just followed me.

"You're going to sleep with me in my cabin, young man. I was just out for a while and you've broken my most important rule." He said while he crossed his arms around his chest.

Now that he's back whether we like it or not he'll be the authority. perks of being a protector. Psh.

"Sure." That's all I have to say. I can't argue with an OLD SATYR. I'll never win.

"Good. Now, how are you? I'm alive. You too. You made it out of Tartarus. Great." He said. With much interest. Surprisingly.

"Yeah. Who knew I would." I said. I wanted to dismiss the topic. O don't want to think back on that.

"You have me to thank." Coach had that proud tone in his voice.

"WHAT?!" I asked while eyeing him.

"Yeah. I sent Nico there to get you. I can't afford to die. Not with Mellie's situation." Mentioning the name of Mellie, his voice faltered.

"Yeah. Thanks, Coach. What's with Mellie. You sound so nervous." I asked with great concern. I must admit this old guy is really close to my heart. But I can't tell him that. He'll kill me.

"It's private. I can't tell you." He did not meet my eyes.

"Okay." I knew better than push Coach Hedge with a very sensitive topic like this.

"Ok, I'll tell you, if you insist. Mellie's pregnant. I left her before we left for the giant war." He said. He's eyes focused on the floor.

"Coach why didn't you tell us?" Coach is having a baby and he left them to help us.

To protect us.

He risked his empathy link to let us know they're safe. He risked it with me.

He could have done it to Jason, the guy has a bigger chance of survival than me. I mean. Bigger than you think.

"I can't leave you behind. You'll die." He said still not meeting my eyes.

"You were back at camp. Why'd you come back?" I held Coach's shoulder.

"I'm a protector. I have to do this. It's the only thing I could be proud of. it's the only thing I could tell my child when the time come. If I ever not come back at least Mellie could tell our kid that its daddy died saving heroes." He said. Now his voice is shaking.

Coach was crying.

I don't know what to say. I have been there. I never felt I'm good at anything but machines and it's the only thing I could be proud of. I really felt nothing until Calypso came. Then I wanted to prove something. I know no words can make him feel better.

"Hey, no one should know this. It's only you and frank." He said before he turned his back and walked away.

Before he could reach the stairs I called him.

"Hey, Old Man!" I shouted and he turned.

"You made a very noble choice. And you will make a very noble return. Your little Satyr will be proud of you." I told him.

He just smiled and went below deck.

The noon came. I went below deck to join the Argo II crew with their lunch.

I went to the dining hall.

The crew were sitting on the table.

At the two end of the table sat Jason and Percy.

Annabeth sat beside Percy while Piper sat beside Jason.

In front of Annabeth sat Hazel and beside her is Frank.

While in front of Piper sat Calypso. I immediately sat beside her. I was sitting between Calypso and Nico di Angelo.

Coach Hedge sat in front of me with Damasen. While Bob and small Bob sat beside Nico.

"Coach, how's camp half blood? I mean octavian was planning to attack camp half blood, right?" Percy asked with a tone hard to read.

Anger?

Concern?

Fear?

I don't know.

"Before I left the camp, Chiron had been training the half bloods intensely. He seemed to be worried but camp jupiter haven't shown any sign of attack since we arrived." Coach said with tin can in his mouth.

"That's a good sign right? they're not attacking." I said.

Curse that Teddy Bear killer.

"If we make it out alive I'm gonna rip that Octavian to pieces." I added.

I hear everyone laughed.

Am I that puny lookung to be laughed at for swearing to tear Octavian to pieces?

After they laughed the continued to talk about camp half blood.

Calypso just held my hand.

I may not be strong enough for my crewmates but at least I'm strong in her eyes.

I smiled and turned at the wall.

It's night in camp half blood.

It's peaceful. No sign of an upcoming war.

I miss my home.

I wish I could bring Calypso there.

After we ate dinner we got out of the hall and headed to the cabins.

"C'mon, Leo. It's time to sleep." Calypso pulled me.

"Hmmm. Where do you think you're going, miss?" Coach Hedge appeared out of nowhere.

"Uhm, we're going to sleep." Calypso said.

"You go to sleep here. He sleeps with me. That clear?" Calypso looked at me. I just nodded to tell her to just obey coach's order.

She just nodded back at me and headed straight to the cabins.

"Good. Now, you, follow me to my cabin." Coach walked to his cabin while I follow him.

He opened the door and let me go inside.

"Now, sleep. Good night, Valdez. No sudden act that you'll regret." When he said that he closed the light and got out of the room.

As soon as coach hedge got out I fell asleep.
