"Les voici! Voici la quadrille! La quadrille des toréros! Sur les lances le soleil brille! Alle, alle, alle!" I sang, marching around the house. "Tony noms are starting now! Viva Escamillo!"
"Someone is in a Carmen mood." Lin laughed, sitting on the couch. It was the four of us, Gabe, and abuelo y abuela. "Why Carmen?"
"Out of all the operas I've ever done, Carmen was my favorite. We had the best costumes, and it was the first time we were in the Boston Opera House, and Carmen is my absolute favorite opera ever." I said, sitting on the floor next to Gabe.
"It was such a cool show, actually." Gabe agreed.
"Hola, hola, todos!" Lin's dad called from the door. "Have we missed them?"
"No, of course not. Papi, move inside so we can come in." A new voice called. I looked up at Lin, confused.
"Luzita." Lin said. "¡MI HERMANA!
HERMANO!" She called back, walking into the room and swooping down to place kisses on Lin's cheeks. "¿Como estas, hermanito?"
"¿¡Quieres conocer mi casi hija!? Lin asked, jumping away from her question. "She's my almost daughter. And V's. And Jon's. Where is Jon?"
"Behind your parents!" Jon called. Everyone laughed as we all settled down.
"I'm Luz." She said, kissing me. "Hermano doesn't stop talking about you. You and Vanessa and Sebastian. Never."
"I feel very out of place right now." Gabe said. We all laughed.
"They're starting!" Jon said, and we all hushed each other.
"VIVA TONY NOMS!" I cried.
"Shut up!"
I didn't listen until they brought up the musical nominations.
Lac was nominated for best orchestration. Lin and everyone cheered.
Felicidades to the maestro who lets me pretend I know how to conduct on his Tony nom! Tio Lac :)
I posted it on Twitter, tagging him and grinning as the saga continued.
"Una para Hamilton!" Gabe said, tallying.
Of course Andy was nominated for best choreography. The dancing for the show was so perfect, I would have cried if he wasn't.
Greatest choreographer in the world. Seriously. Have any of you seen his work? Congrats, Andy
I showed Lin all the replies, everyone complaining about now being able to see the show. He grinned.
"Some day." He said, just as they announced best direction of a musical. We cheered once we heard Tommy's name. Lin laughed.
There is no kinder, and tougher director that deserves the nom! Love you, Tommy. Seriously though, he whoops ass.
David was nominated for best set design.
When I first walked into the theater I thought that I walked into a movie set for Downton Abbey or something (wrong time period, and country, but-) GO DAVID!
"That's my crew!" Lin laughed.
"We're at three, going on twenty." Gabe said, still tallying.
We went in to receive nominations in costume design (Remember when I got to wear that gorgeous Peggy dress?), and lighting.
"The nominations for best actress in a featured role are Danielle Brooks, The Color Purple, Renée Elise Goldsberry, Hamilton, Jane Krakowski, She Loves Me, Jennifer Simard, Disaster!, Adrienne Warren, Shuffle Along, Or the Making of the Musical Sensation of 1921 and All That Followed."
"RENÉE" I screeched, jumping up. "I love her!"
"We all do!" Jon screamed.
"Seven!" Gabe added.
I just screamed "I love her!" when they announced Renée. Because I seriously do. Congratulations, Ray-Ray.
"The nominations for best performance by an actor in a featured role in a musical are Daveed Diggs, Hamilton, Brandon Victor Dixon, Shuffle Along, Or the Making of the Musical Sensation of 1921 and All That Followed, Christopher Fitzgerald, Waitress, Christopher Jackson, Hamilton and, Jonathan Groff, Hamilton."
"AHHHHH!" I screamed, jumping onto Jon. "YOU WERE NOMINATED!"
Lin grinned and hugged him. We all celebrated.
(1/3) Congratulations to the best general who gets me ice cream whenever all of my parents say no. Love you too much.
(2/3) Also congrats to a man who has no boundaries in getting me food and also enjoys it when I try to rap. Love you Daveed.
(3/3) You all know that I love my dad more than life itself and that I am so proud of him in this nomination. #TeamKingGeorge5eva
"The nominations for best performance by an actress in a leading role in a musical are Laura Benanti, She Loves Me, Carmen Cusack, Bright Star, Cynthia Erivo, The Color Purple, Jessie Mueller, Waitress, and Phillipa Soo, Hamilton."
"YEAH, PIPPA!" I screamed, jumping up. Everyone cheered.
My guardian angel's been nominated for a Tony. Thank you for rescuing me, Pips, and congratulations.
"Vamos, papi!" I shouted when they announced his name for best actor. I leaned over to hug him.
"I love all the people nominated." He said. Then they announced Leslie.
"My man!" We all shouted together.
When your idol is nominated for a Tony and he's gonna win, you feel it. (Sorry, papa). Love you, Leslie.
"BEST SCORE, BEST BOOK AND BEST MUSICAL!" I screamed, jumping up and down, waving my phone and dancing. Everyone laughed.
"SIXTEEN TONY NOMS!" Gave shouted, brandishing the list.
The entire house cheered, clapping and hugging each other.
In an act of God I was placed in the middle of a world that I loved, and now that world is about to rock the real world. I love my world. Congrats, Ham fam.
"Okay, I'm gonna make a flan now to celebrate. ¿Quien quiere ayudar?"
Luzita and Liz stood up and followed me. We spent an hour making it, then waiting for it to cook and cool. It was the best morning.
I decided to get back on twitter to post one last thing.
I love my world. I don't think there is a luckier, and happier girl than me right now.
