The Surprise

"Lauryn you were supposed to be here two hours ago, I can't find Nick, my mother is ignoring me, and I have heartburn." Gaby whined into her cell phone.

"I know sweetheart I'm on my way now, just sit tight I'll be there in about twenty minutes."

"Fine," Gaby said before the line went dead. Lauryn tossed her phone into her bag and looked at Nick.

"She's a crabby lady."

"I know she's been at it for a few days; I don't blame her after being cooped up in our room all day for almost a month."

"Gaby never did do anything the right way," Lauryn said shaking her head as she placed a garment bag on the back seat of her car.

"Thanks for taking this back to the house; I don't want anything happening to it while I do the rest of my running around but first I have to go to work."

"I thought you had off?"

"I do I just have to take care of something first."

"Oh okay, just do me a favor and give your girl a call before she bursts a blood vessel."

"Will do," Nick said with a laugh as he got into his car.

When Lauryn arrived at the house, she let herself in while Isabelle was busy in the kitchen.

"Hi, auntie," Lauryn said as she kissed her aunt's cheek.

"Hi sweetie," Isabelle said as she kneaded a big ball of dough.

"Do you want some help?"

"No I'm good, but you can go talk to your cousins she's driving me crazy. I will be glad when she goes into labor." Isabelle said as she rolled her eyes.

"I think we all will be glad."

When Lauryn walked into the bedroom Gaby's face lit up, "Cousin!" she squealed as she held her arms open for Lauryn to hug her.

"Hi Gaby," Lauryn said as she hugged Gaby and planted a kiss on her stomach.

"Wow, these little munchkins are getting big."

"I know, I hadn't seen my feet since I don't know when," Gaby said shaking her head. "Help me up I have to use the bathroom," Gaby said as she tossed her legs to the side of the bed and Lauryn pulled her up.

"How's Randy?" she asked as she walked into the bathroom.

"He's fine; I think he's planning on stopping by later on."

"Oh cool, have you talked to Nick today?"

"Yeah, he asked me if I was coming to see you," Lauryn said as she talked through the bathroom door.

"He's hiding something."

"What makes you say that?"

"He's acting weird."

"Well didn't you tell me that he still hasn't told you about the job offer?"

"Yeah,"

"So maybe that's it." Lauryn was answered by the flush of the toilet, and then the running of water before Gaby walked out.

"I don't know, but he's just really secretive."

"He probably doesn't want to worry you, stop worrying about it. Let me do your hair."

"Bless your heart woman," Gaby said as she kissed Lauryn on the cheek and hugged her.

"Nick washed it for me a few days ago, and I haven't been able to do anything with it except for this crusty braid," Gaby said as she held up the braid by the end with a frown.
