I wake up the next morning and get straight in the shower. I still smell of the sea seeing as I was too tired to shower last night. Memories flood back of mine and Conor’s argument and I try to push it to the back of my mind but I can’t. Why am I always thinking about him? My phone vibrates, interrupting my thoughts.

“Hello?” I pick up the phone without reading caller ID.

“Hey it’s Jack. Sorry I had to leave you yesterday, Conor insisted he’d take care of you” he laughs.

“Oh it’s fine, don’t worry about it. I’ll bring your hoody to school today”

“Well if you want, keep it until Friday. I was going to ask last night if you wanted to come over on Friday but someone fell asleep. How do you manage to go to sleep on a beach?”

“Sorry,” I laugh “I hate to admit it but your brother is very comfortable” I smirk, making him laugh. “Anyway, I’ll bring it on Friday then yeah?”

“Ok. I just can’t be bothered carrying it around school” he laughs. “I’ll see you at the shop in a bit then”

“Yeah ok, see you later”

“Bye Lucy” he says before ending the call.

The whole day in school, Conor and I are ignoring each other. I have a reason to but he’s just being plain old Conor. I stay with Jack, Ben and Mike at break and lunch and I stay with Lois, Leila and a bit of Alex during lessons.

I told Jack about the argument we had which means I told him about the fight that Conor got in. He took it well and said that Conor’s always fighting when he’s drunk. I’m glad I told Jack, I feel like loads of weight has been taken off my shoulders. I don’t even care about how mad Conor’s going to be about me telling Jack. Although, he hopefully won’t find out. Jack said he would just leave it and not tell Conor anything so I should be alright.

At the end of the day, we walk to the shop and go our separate ways.

“You should come shopping with us all” Lois suggests.

“When?” I ask.

“Now. We’ll be setting off in half an hour”

“Um,” I don’t really have anything else to do “yeah sure”

“Ok well meet us here in thirty minutes” she smiles before leaving me to walk down my street.

When I get home, I quickly put on some black skinny jeans, a plain blue t-shirt and my white converse. It’s not too cold today but I bring my black leather Jacket just in case. I straighten my hair instead of having it in the same old curls. I put it in a pony tail but decide against it, and let my hair fall down to my waist. I top up my make-up and set off to the shop. When I get there, Olivia and Charlotte are stood waiting.

“Hey Lucy!” they shout. I walk over to them and give them a hug.

“So do you come shopping every day?” I laugh, knowing that they also went yesterday.

“No. Yesterday we just went to Starbucks and by the time we came out, all the shops were shut, so we met you guys at the beach” Charlotte explains making me laugh. About 5 minutes later, Lois arrives with Leila.

“Sorry I’m late, I lost my shoes” she says. We take the 5 minute walk into town and when we arrive, we spend our money like there’s no tomorrow. The shops are full of everything you could possibly want. We go in every shop and try on several things.

I bonded so well with them all. I’d been spending too much time with Jack and not enough time with the girls. I like Jack of course. I’m closer to him that anyone else I’ve met in Brighton but sometimes, you need to spend time with the girls.

It gets to 8 o’clock and all the shops are beginning to shut. We bought at least 1 thing from every shop in the Mall. I’m carrying 9 bags full of clothes and shoes. It’s a good job I brought all my birthday money. I never got chance to spend it in Cheshire because we we’re moving but I’m glad I got to spend it on all of this stuff.

We went into Starbucks and bought ourselves a drink. We sat on one of the sofas in there and had a little heart to heart about everything. We spent an hour in here and it took my mind off Conor. I hadn’t thought of him all day which was great. Today has definitely been the best day I’ve had in Brighton, and I’ve gotten so much closer to all the girls. They’re great.

The rest of the week goes by smoothly. I hate not talking to Conor but it isn’t awkward around him. I just act like he isn’t there, although I feel him watching me quite a lot.

Today is Friday, meaning I’m going to Jack’s house today. I really don’t want Conor to be there.

I get home and have a quick shower. I blow dry my hair and straighten it which takes a good half hour. And then I realise.

Crap.

Jack said he’ll pick me up in half an hour.

I pick out clothes as quickly as possible. I pull out a blue shirt and some denim shorts. I slip on my black pumps and start to apply my foundation to my face when the doorbell rings. I run downstairs with foundation on my hand, a brush in my other hand and my make-up half done. I answer the door and run back upstairs once it’s open.

“Lucy?” Jack asks.

“I’m nearly ready, just watch TV or something” I shout to him downstairs. I didn’t even get chance to see who he was with, but I know someone else is there.

I apply powder, mascara and a bit of eyeliner. I give myself one last look before running back downstairs. I let out a huge breath I didn’t realise I was holding in, then grab Jack's arm and pull him off the sofa. I turn around to see Conor watching TV.

“Are we going then?” I ask, sighing at Conor.

“Yeah come on” Jack smiles.

I leave a note on the arm of the sofa, telling my Mum that I’ve gone to Lois’s for a bit. Jack laughs, knowing that if I told my Mum I was going to a boys house, she’d freak out.

When we get to Jack and Conor’s house, Jack searches his pockets for the key.

“Conor, do you have a key?” Jack asks.

“No you said you had it” Conor replies, checking his pockets.

“Shit” Jack laughs.

“Are your parents not in?” I ask.

“Nope” Jack laughs.

“Jack, it’s not funny, what are we gonna do?” I panic. Conor walks over to the huge gate, twice the size of me at the side of his house.

“Lucy’s the lightest. We’ll throw you over, then you unlock the gate and we’ll go through the side door. It’s always open” Conor frowns. I look at Jack as if I'm asking him for permission and he hesitantly nods.

I walk over to the gate and Conor puts his hands on my waist. I get those stupid butterflies in my stomach again, when suddenly, Conor throws me over... Literally. I fall on my knees and I feel them scrape across the floor. I sit on my bum and look at my bleeding knees before I look up at Conor at the other side of the gate.

They both bite their lips to hold in the laughter but fail miserably. We all just burst out laughing. My knees are burning but this is absolutely hilarious.

I get up and unlock the gate with the key hidden under a rock.

“CONOR, LOOK WHAT YOU’VE DONE!” Jack shouts after his laughing fit.

“Sorry, you’re just so light” Conor laughs. I just sigh and follow Jack through the side door that Conor said would be open. He lifts me up onto the counter and gets out an antiseptic wipe. I hiss in pain as Jack rubs it over my knee. Conor’s just sat at the other side of the kitchen watching me. “Jack you need to put a plaster on it” Conor says, looking at my knees.

“Get me one then” Jack says impatiently. Conor opens a cupboard and gets out a box of plasters. He picks out 2 big ones and hands them Jack. He lightly pats the plasters on both my knees then helps me off the counter.

“Thanks” I smile looking down on my knees. It’s going to be a long night...
