Chapter 31

It has now been just over a month since I’d left my life of struggling to pay bills; sitting on the beach now, I think about the many times I’ve sat here figuring out the best way to get away from Peatry before realising I have nowhere to go.

The ocean always has such a calming feeling.  Seeing children running along the beach with their loyal canines, each child is always filled with such happiness; yelling back to their parents constantly to hurry up before the waves disappear.

The waves are fairly calm here, Hervey Bay seemed to me like a popular tourist place but here, this beach was private; reserved for the residents of Peatry’s street.

I got along with all the neighbours aside from the two teenage know it all guys that lived two houses down.  My last encounter with the two guys; Sam and Edward, ended in my favour, with me spitting in their faces as Peatry dragged me away up the beach.

I knew the next time I come across the guys, it was most likely going to be a full on brawl if they believed in the philosophy of hitting a girl.

Unlucky for me, Peatry’s house just happened to pear through the space between the palm trees and the street, therefore making the majority of what went on, on the beach visible to his prying eyes.

Often looking back, the guy would be sitting on his porch reading some random newspaper or doing some random Chinese Watercolour Painting he called art.

Today just must have been one of my unlucky days, as I saw the two numbskulls, Sam and Edward wandering up the beach in my direction.

Choosing to do the normal thing, I sat my ground drawing shapes in the sand; pretending I could give a damn what the morons did.

Only minutes later, their voices quietened and a foot full of sand was thrown up in my face.  The sand hit my face, practically blinding me as I tried to get up falling backwards on my butt.

I could hear the two hysterical chuckles from the two guys which had just asked for me to kick their teeth in.  ‘Yo Sam, I think girly here might be having a romance with the sand, what’d ya reckon bro’?

Wiping my hand over my eyes, I managed to half open my left eye to reveal the two foreign figures blocking my sun and my view of the ocean.  ‘She’s not biting bro; maybe we should throw her in the ocean and see if she squeals’?

A vein pulsated in my temples as my eyes now opened, stinging but bearable to reveal Sam and Edward, standing side by side in nothing but their boxers.

Breaking the silence, I gave the two morons the best mouthful I could; ‘I hope you two can run fast, because when I’m done with you, you’re going to have none of your bullshitting teeth left’!

I watched Sam’s eyes, as his pupils slipped between Edward and me, looking unsure how to proceed.

Sam’s figure was more slim than Edwards, having a more athletic build that said catch me if you can, whereas Edward was built like a body builder with muscles crammed into every available spot.

Both guys had a dark sun tan, most likely from spending precious time out here on the beach earning their leukaemia.  Edward now piped up, taking the lead as usual; ‘so she speaks, such a horrible voice she owns; I suggest you run along now girly and hold back your threats if you can’t keep em’.

Pfffffft, this guy so had it coming!  Getting to my feet, I watched as Sam took a small step back obviously intimidated whilst Edward stood his ground trying to act the dominant pup he was.

‘Listen pup!  This is my part of the beach, so I won’t tell you again’!  Taking a big step in an attempt to stand over Edward, I spat in his face for the second time in only a week; making my threat sound real.  ‘I will bash your teeth in; so don’t even test me’!
