Chapter 21

When I arrived back at my room, Hunter sat my ice cream in front of me without even saying a word.  Maybe he was upset and maybe it had something to do with what Steve was going on about.  Guess it was now or never; this was not the Hunter I was used to.

Levering my spoon so it was faced across the table from where Hunter sat, I flicked a small piece of ice cream off my spoon and into Hunter’s face.

Erupting with laughter I saw he actually looked up smiling at me, ‘yes princess; something wrong’?

Trying to calm myself down I managed to get a few words out, ‘oh no, I’m perfectly fine, glad I could break you from your trance’.

Hunter now smirked; that was much more like him, maybe now was time for a serious question just to confuse him.  ‘Hey Hunter why don’t you like going down in the hospital wing of this place’?

Hunter choked on the ice cream as he practically inhaled it, looking at me; ‘what would make you think that princess’?

Seeing as he just choked on his ice cream because of what I just said; I knew I was right on this one; ‘oh nothing Hunter……just curious’.

Hunter stared me down for a minute, as if he was trying to think of a reason not to answer this question; if Hunter thought he was getting out of my question he had another thing coming.

‘Well……ah’

Was this really the Hunter I had known since coming here; always closed off and having the strength of a fortress; Hunter quite the opposite at the moment unable to form words that any intelligent human could understand.

‘Hunter, you need to speak English; unfortunately for you I didn’t do a course on crazy people talk so do enlighten me with your reasoning in a language I will understand’.

Hunter’s smirk returned hearing my narcissist comment; ‘do you really want to know Princess, I’m afraid your ego might not be able to handle it’?

Was Hunter serious right now, he was talking crap the way he was avoiding the question; ‘Hunter just tell me, save yourself the trouble’.

Hunter put down his bowl, now proceeding to walk over in my direction; if this was some wise crack to get me to believe some lie he was about to tell, he was going to get it.

Hunter leaned in close to my ear, making me shiver at his close proximity; ‘do you really want to know Princess’?

About ready to throttle this guy, before I got the chance to throw a punch, I heard the soft whisper in my ear that pretty much shattered me on the spot; ‘I was born here’.

Wait a minute; how was Hunter born here, wasn’t this supposedly an advertising firm.  Since when did advertising firms specialise in helping deliver babies.  ‘I don’t understand……….’

Hunter now spun me around to face him; his eyes showed something I had not seen before, it was regret.

‘I’m Mrs Kingsmen’s son’.

Time just stopped as I processed those four words.  That bitch had a son and he was the one guy I actually got along with.  So wait if Hunter was Mrs Kingsmen’s son who was his father; surely it wasn’t Steve, that would just ruin my day.

Frozen in place I held the spoon that was halfway to my mouth, this was too much information; I liked it better when I didn’t know Hunter was Mrs Kingsmen’s son.

‘Well that didn’t go quite as smoothly as I’d hoped……..’

Watching Hunter take a seat right next to me, I didn’t even look at him seeing the ice cream melting off the spoon in front of me.  The ice cream was now beginning to run down the table but still shocked by this revelation I couldn’t even form words; ‘ah……..wha’?
