Forgiveness

"I've noticed that you and Lila seem to be getting closer..." Ladybug and Chat Noir stood off at a distance as they both watched Volpina kneel down to comfort a young, confused child. The little innocent girl was just freed from one of Hawk Moth's evil akumas. Chat Noir was leaning over slightly as he rested his chin and hands against the end of his staff. Ladybug, on the other hand, stood upright with her arms folded across her chest.

Chat Noir, grinning, turned his attention away from Volpina. He looked up at Ladybug, only to see a scowl resting upon her face. His smile faded as he stood up straight. "Marinette, when are you going to forgive her? Lila has tried literally everything to win over you and your approval of her."

Ladybug kept her squinted eyes on the orange fox. "She might have been given the actual fox miraculous, but that does not change the past." She sighed as she thought back to all of the terror that the akumatized Lila caused. Ladybug quickly blinked the images away before turning to face Chat. "It's not even about the lies anymore. She worries me, Adrien. Lila was the only akuma victim who affected me so terribly. She knew my all of my weaknesses and how to effectively use them against me..." Detailed images of the Adrien allusion dangling from the Eiffel Tower flashed into Ladybug's head. The very thought of losing him was too much for her. He meant everything to her. She shook the dreadful scenario out of her head. "As miraculous holders, we have to control our emotions. Neither of us have been akumatized, but she has. What if she loses it again? Hawk Moth knows that she was his strongest weapon and is probably continuing to watch her like a hawk."

Chat Noir placed one of his hands on the girl's shoulder. "Mari, we've never seen the same person akumatized twice like that. Her personal akuma was purified, remember? It would take severe negative emotions to create a new one. With the large amount of Parisians that adore Volpina," Chat turned his head for a brief moment to motion to the crowd of people swarming the vixen, "I don't think you have anything to worry about."

"There's also one other reason..." Ladybug's voice was nearly inaudible.

"What else is there?" Chat's head tilted slightly, resembling a confused puppy.

"I see the way that she looks at you." Ladybug's heart sank. "I know that look, Adrien. She still has feelings for you..."

Chat Noir couldn't help but let out a chuckle. "Trust me, she doesn't see me that way. There's some guy back in Italy that she's crazy about. A young actor, I believe. Which you would know if you talked to her once in a while." Ladybug lowered her head down in shame. "Plus, even if she did like me, it wouldn't change anything because," Chat Noir leaned in closer to the red and black spotted heroine, whispering softly into her ear, "there's this other girl that I'm pawsitively in love with."

Ladybug couldn't help but feel like such a fool. Adrien was still just as crazy about Marinette as she was for him. The superheroine turned her head away from the flirtatious Chat Noir to examine Volpina. She watched as the vixen picked up the young child and twirled her around and around again. The child's eyes were gleaming with joy as the little girl giggled uncontrollably. A sincere feeling of guilt instantly hit Ladybug. Maybe Volpina wasn't as bad as she thought. Perhaps people can change. After all, Master Fu seemed to trust her with the power of a miraculous. Ladybug gently pushed past Chat Noir, whom seemed concerned as to what she was going to do.

She walked up to Volpina and tapped her on the shoulder. "Hey, Volpina? Would I be able to talk to you for just a second?" Ladybug smiled to show her pleasantness.

"Yeah, of course, Ladybug!" Volpina lowered the young girl to the ground, reassuring her that she would return shortly. The two superheroines stepped out of hearing distance of the other civilians.

Ladybug crossed her fingers behind her back, hoping for the best. "I know that I haven't been the kindest to you and I am really sorry, Lila. Amongst other things, jealousy got the best of me. I probably don't deserve it, but would you please forgive me?"

"I forgave you a long time ago, Marinette." Volpina smiled as she hugged the blue-eyed beauty. "I know you probably think that I'm still trying to come in between you and Adrien, but I promise you that I-"

Ladybug smiled. "I know that you aren't, Lila. In fact, I heard about your Italian actor boy." She winked at the girl. "So, is it too soon, or can we work towards being friends?"

"You know what? I would love that, Mari!" Volpina sighed in relief. It would be nice to no longer have so much tension between two of the superhero teammates.

Ladybug's earrings beeped, telling her she only had two minutes before she would detransform. "Looks like that's my cue. I think you can handle everything from here. See you around, Lila." Ladybug wanted to rush over to Chat Noir to greet him once more before heading home.

Once Ladybug approached, Chat smirked. Clearly, he was impressed by her sudden change of heart. "That looks like it went quite well."

She flicked the black cat's nose with her index finger. "All thanks to you." The new friendship would serve as useful for both Ladybug and Marinette. Since Ladybug and Volpina made up, they would have more time to focus on saving Paris rather than fighting. Also, it never hurt for Marinette to make more friends.

Turning her attention back to the boy, Ladybug leaned in slowly towards Chat Noir. She lowered her voice to a whisper and left merely two inches between the two's lips. "I hope to see you tonight, mon chaton."

Chat Noir watched in pure delight as Ladybug jumped from building to building in order to rush home to get ready for their date.
