Part 14: Picking it All Up

I didn't cry. I just stood there.

It was over, I felt an overwhelming calmness come over me. Seff had his arms around me. I shut my eyes as his warmth relaxed me; I looked at him, to see that he was smiling back at me.

"I love you," he mouthed, I gasped as butterflies erupted in my stomach. I was on cloud nine.

This was all that I wanted. I was blushing as he placed a slow kiss on my forehead.

"We need to rest," he said, before he grabbed my hand, leaving the others to figure out what to do with the charred body that once was my grandmother's. I placed my head on the crook of his shoulders. Seff sighed and before I knew it he was carrying me away from the havoc...

To his Cabin. He slowly placed me in his bed, covering me up in blankets.

"I'll make us some food," he whispered, his voice hoarse. I nodded but began to close my eyes.

I fell asleep.

I remember that sleep... I had no dreams, I just slept, my body moulding into the bed and I was unaware of everything around me. Everything was okay now, there was no danger to my life any longer. I smiled, standing up, only to find Seff in the doorway.

"Good morning," he breathed. His voice sounded so good; or was it just my happy mood.

I walked towards him and hugged him tight.

"We're fine," I breathed incredulously, my arms were still tightly wrapped around me. He kissed me on the forehead, before lifting me up bridal style. I was giggling all the way to the kitchen.

"So what next?" I asked as he placed a plateful of cake in front of me. I guess we are celebrating. He placed a plate full of sandwiches in front of me as well and I dug in.

"We are leaving," he told me. There was an eery silence.

"The pack offered us places, we will stay there until we figure it out." I nodded complacently. Seff was staring at me.

"Aren't you going to ask?"

I shook my head. I knew what he was on about.

"Red, this isn't the way forward," he told me.

"That's why I'm all up for leaving," I interjected, "We need a new start."

Seff just looked at me, he began speaking.

"She was born as an Elemental, an Element Holder is a different kind of supernatural. They can change into anything... Your Grandmother changed into something worse, she changed into a shapeshifter and changed Alex... Now that she is dead, Alex is free to live his life as he wishes. And you..."

I stood up. I didn't want to discuss this further.

"Let's get our bags ready," I said, "We need to leave now. I can't stand anything or this place any longer. What if they start to ask questions? We need to go!"

Seff grabbed my arm, he held mean place.

"Red... No one can harm us, we are leaving tomorrow morning, its all packed. You need to be open about your emotions." He lectured me, I rolled my eyes.

"As if you are open about yours," I quipped back. He sighed heavily.

"Actually," he began, but he seemed to think against whatever he was going to say, "Let me take you out for tonight."

I smiled as he kissed my hand.

"I love you Red and now that we have the rest of eternity together..."

I watched as he walked away, only to return with my cloak in his hands.

I followed him as he opened the door and reached for my hand. I was really enjoying his change in tune. But I was scared... What if I became what my GrandMother had become. I had so many questions and a lot of them wouldn't be answered.

I was looking at the sky, the vivid blue was enlaced with the sincere white of the clouds. I could see the sun peaking at us from behind the clouds. And it was warm. I looked at the field of daffodils ahead of us and I looked at the bright green grass. There was no snow.

I smiled, looking up at Seff incredulously.

"It's ironic, it's not snowing for the first time in years and we are together and happy and safe." Seff laughed. He had picked me up and was spinning me around in circles.

"I'm so happy," he gushed, giving me a quick kiss on the lips. We sat down, our hands interlaced, my skin was warm from the sun beaming on me. This was a good day. Yet why did I feel so sad?

I tried to smile, but tears were running down my face.

"What if I turn out like my Grandmother?" I whispered. Seff smiled.

"A lot of children are haunted by the misdemeanours of past generations. I used to be fearful of what my father was, but I've come to the conclusion that, even though the apple doesn't fall too far from the tree. The apples never end up in the same place as the tree itself. We are like our parents, but what we do with what we are, is our choice."

I smiled, wiping a few stray tears from my face, I slowly placed my head on Seff's shoulders.

"You always know what to say," I whispered. "I will grow stronger," I promised. "I may be an orphan, but I'm not alone."

I shut my eyes and Seff smiled.

"Your parents would be proud," he uttered before I fell asleep in his arms.

I was awoken by the sound of Seff opening the door. I was being carried by him. I looked up to see him looking deep in thought. He slowly placed me on the ground.

"Let's have some dinner," he offered, I watched as he pulled some chicken and potatoes from the oven. He waited until I was sitting on the table to start dishing out. We ate in awkward silence. It was so funny. The atmosphere could be buzzing one moment and awkward the next. When we finished eating, he took my hand. I tried to ignore the tingle that went through my whole body.

He was looking so scared.

He got on one knee, I was starting to wonder now...

He was looking at me so intently.

"Red Riding Hood," I huffed at that nickname.

"You are my soulmate, my past, my present and my future. I don't see myself alone anymore.

I know the last few weeks have been rough yet here we are..."

I was tearing up so hard at this stage.

"Red, will you do the honour of becoming my-"

He was interrupted by the sound of the door being opened we could hear rough and angry footsteps. Seff slowly stood up, his hands were around me in a possessive pose.

"Red!"

I looked around, trying to look over Seff's shoulders. I finally got a peak and in front of us stood Alex... All back to normal.

Will this ever end?!

*We are coming to an end. But there are still some exciting things coming. Red is now with Seff but did you think Alex was going to let go that easily? Anyway, little Red Riding Hood was a fairytale. And this might or might not be. Just comment and guess on what they might end up doing. I hope I'm not too predictable.

Anyway
