Chapter 2

I vividly remember walking home that night. I knew my father would be angry with me. I didn't care. He hadn't spoken to me and he was going to get rid of me by marrying me off. As soon as I thought about that, I stopped in my tracks. I sat down.

I was going to be married- merely Alex's property. I had been thinking that once Seff had trained me, I would be strong enough to leave, fend for myself. I bit my lip. I wasn't going to run away from it all. I thought about all the options a girl like me had in this world. I had no wealth, no family outside this village. I had nothing, I was nothing. I almost cried as I thought about that, I was absolutely doomed.

As soon as it started to get colder; I stood back up, my eyes glowing and my mind made up. I was trying to do my homework; I was going to do what Seff had taught me but after numerous attempts, it didn't work. Of course it didn't, nothing ever works the first time. That's what I told myself at least.

I didn't enter the house for a very long time, I just faced the wooden cabin. It was nice, small and cosy. I worked hard keeping the house clean, that was my only job. I looked around the valley our village was in. I had always dreamt of something bigger and better than this. I thought that I could do that with my powers or whatever I had. I was staring intently at my house until I got bored and slammed the door open. I nonchalantly headed to the kitchen and sat down facing the empty kitchen sink.

"You keep the house very clean,"

I flew out of my chair in shock.

In front of me stood a woman, she was tall and regal. She looked just like Alex. I couldn't stop the sneer forming on my face when I figured that her offspring was probably Alex. Gross. I avoided eye contact with her.

"I am so glad to meet you. Alex has been talking about you for years and I never see you at events." She said, being nice but much like with Alex, I seriously didn't like her.

"I like to keep to myself," I said, feeling pained as I spoke to Medusa herself. Alex's mother was a beautiful woman, stunning actually. She just seemed too perfect, too rich.

"So you must be lonely, spending all your days alone in this house." She said and I didn't answer. I didn't even face her. We became silent, the eerie tone of the silence causing me to begin speaking.

"I visit my grandmother quite a lot and make sure she is alright. I keep myself busy farming and selling crops for a little extra money."

Alex's mother seemed distressed by my announcement.

"When you marry my son, you will never need to work... Actually, come over for dinner tonight, I'll have the chef cook us something special." She chortled and I just looked at her. She was crazy, or maybe this is what normal soon to be mother in laws did. I knew that I had to agree with her, she seemed absolutely excited and I pretended to be.

That's how I ended up in her house, well mansion. The mansion was so big, the toilet was bigger than our whole cabin. I could see how other girls would want this. I faced Alex who was looking at me with confused eyes and shook my head. I would never want this.

"We must go search for a dress for you," Alex's mother said, I looked at her blankly.

Everything went downhill from there on. But before I knew it, I was sat by the table, dressed in the black dress, Mona, Alex's mother, forced me to wear. I was not considerably hungry as I had eaten at home before I left, knowing that rich people eat disgusting food.

"So Mona, how many children would you like to have?" Alex asked me, I felt completely disgusted. The bile was slowly rising up my throat as I faced him. I shook my head and frown. I would never want to have kids with him.
