Chapter 9

I didn't look back, I walked and I walked and I walked. I knew that Seff had no definite plan, and all I had to do was to keep safe for a week and then the rest of our lives would begin.

If only it was so simple.

The bag was getting heavier on my shoulder as I walked. My heart was dropping lower and lower and lower.

I loved Seff.

We'd been through so much together, he had taken care of me, done everything for me. Heck, he saved my life.

I looked back, to find the cabin a small image. I shut my eyes, Seff was long gone now. It was only me to protect myself and I had to get away. I had to leave and never come back. I started to run, my legs were aching but I kept running. I was trying to escape from it all.

I watched as the snow covered ground slowly turned green. I paused.

I had never seen the grass like this. I stared at the trees, the sun was shining on me. As far as I looked, I couldn't see snow. My heart skyrocketed, I was covered in goose pimples.

I looked around and laughed, my stomach felt light, my limbs were light. I sat down and giggled. I touched it all, this was real freedom.

The mystery, the running, the danger was gone. If only I could enjoy this with Seff.

Seff... My heart lurched as I thought about what he would be facing. I narrowed my eyes. I had to do something. I smiled as I picked up my bag and started running. I had created a plan, I was going to rescue him. I wasn't going to listen to him.

I began to pick up speed, the wind was slapping against my face, I was breathing harshly as I ran. My feet were throbbing and hot. I smiled internally as the plan built up.

Soon, there was no more grass and forestry and there were roads. There were roads in the Village but none like these, these roads were large and endless. At the Village, people would cautiously walk on the road because there would always be carts on the road. I had heard Seff talk about motor cars.

I watched at the contrast between forestry and absolutely nothing. I was excited as I walked slowly, Seff had better be safe. I began to recall everything that Seff had told me about the outside world. I remembered what he had said about the wolf packs that had existed when he was a boy.

Of course things could've changed over time, but I believed that it would be best to keep looking. I kept walking until the sun began to set, I made the decision to take my sleeping bag out and sleep. I wasn't that hungry as I had eaten breakfast.

As I laid down that night, staring at the stars, I began to think. I had no family, I didn't have to marry Alex and I wouldn't have to face anyone from the Village. I was free.

I knew that I was safe as Seff would come for me if I needed him and I him. As I thought about that, a searing pain hit my abdomen. My eyesight became hazy, I couldn't breathe. The hit had been so brutal, it felt like my ribs had been crushed. I didn't make a sound as I didn't want to get any unwanted attention. It was dark, in the middle of the night with no one close.

The searing pain came back again, but this time on my head, it was like I had been kicked in the skull. I slowly lifted my blouse, searching for bruises and blood. I found nothing.

That only meant one thing, Seff had been attacked. I knew he was alive, but at the rate that he was getting hit, I knew he had been overpowered and I needed to react... Fast.

With shaking hands, I put all my belongings back in my bag. The pain was still prominent but I ignored it, knowing that I was not physically hurt. With tears running down my face from the effort I was putting not to cry, I began to run; my breathing was heavy and shallow but I carried on. The sound of my feet on the ground and my shallow breathing engulfed the night... Until I heard a series of howls. I paused.

I was getting close.

I carried in running, I could feel my energy escaping, but I needed to do this for Seff. I needed to rescue him. I would do so as well, if it was the last thing I did.

The howls were getting closer, until they stopped. I stopped as well, I was swaying on my feet in absolute exhaustion. My eyes were dropping closed. I was trying my hardest to stay awake.

I succeeded, I followed the faint sounds of heart beats until I saw a man in his wolf form. I knew he was a WereWolf because of his eyes, I could feel the dominance radiating off of him.

He was what Seff had described as an Alpha.

I saw one more wolf, and another, and another. Until I was surrounded by wolves. They were creeping closer to me.

"Please," I stammered, I was so tired, so hungry.

"Please help me," I had no more tears to cry at this stage.

"My mate... Danger... NewBorn." I uttered, before I collapsed in absolute exhaustion.
