“We have to do something Izzy,” Jace said. I continued to stare at the ceiling.

“We can’t let her get away with shit like that,” He said. I just stared.

“Izzy, are you listening to me?” He asked, annoyed.

“Yes,” I answered.

“Well what do you think,” He asked.

“I don’t know,” I whispered. Jace flung himself off the bed and stood in front of the window. The moon bounced off his blond hair, making it seem to glow. The muscles in his back tightened as he crossed his arms. Ageing had been kind to him.

“You can’t continue to ignore it Izzy. She’s not like you. You had limits. She’s going farther and farther seeing what she can get away with and you’re letting her. You never back me up, with anything. You let her walk all over you.” He shouted angrily.

“I’m sorry,” I whispered.

“No you’re not. If you were you would let me ground her.” He snapped.

I didn’t say anything. “Izzy!” He shouted. I looked over at him. His hands were clenched in fists at his sides, his eyes focused intently on me.

“Ground her, I don’t care.” I answered.

“No you ground her! You never do anything to make her behave Izzy! What’s wrong with you? You’re so tough on the boys, but when it comes to Kali you let her get away with everything! I thought you’d want to protect her!” He screamed at me.

“Don’t scream at me!” I shouted back.

“Well then do something with your goddamn daughter!” He shouted.

“So she’s only mine when she’s in trouble?” I yelled.

“That’s not what I meant!” He screamed.

“It’s what you implied!” I shrieked. Jace threw his hands into the air in frustration.

“Where are you going?” I asked.

“To the office,” He snapped over his shoulder. Once he was gone Adam began crying in his room. I went down the hall.

“What’s wrong baby?” I asked, wrapping him in my arms.

“Why are you and Daddy fighting?” He asked.

“It’s alright baby, we just had a little fight it’s ok.” I told him. He looks up at me, his eyes boring deep into my soul. He nodded and hugged me tight.

“Want to sleep in my room tonight?” I asked. He nodded again and I picked him up. I closed the door behind me. Jack stood across the hall in the doorway of his room. I fell back against the door.

“You scared me,” I breathed.

“Sorry,” He apologized. “You know he’s right,”

“Who’s right?” I asked.

“Dad,” He said. He disappeared back into his room. I sighed and took Adam to our room. I set him on the bed then went downstairs and into Kali’s room. She had her laptop on her knees, video chatting with Sam. She moved to close it.

“No leave it open this concerns him too,” I said. Kali looked at me confused.

“You’re grounded, for the rest of the summer. No Sam, no friends, no freedom. Do you understand?” I asked. Kali’s mouth popped open.
