Jace's POV

Chief hadn't stopped glaring at me since last night. Izzy had been taken to the hospital and was released a few hours later. She sat on the chair now, her knees pulled to her chest. The bruises on her face were a dark, almost black, purple color. Her wrists had deep cuts on them from the zip ties. The doctor had bandaged them up. Jack sat at her feet staring up at her. She wouldn't hold him, like he wanted her so badly to do, she just would look at him and give him a weak smile.

The blare of sirens snapped me out of my daze. Just the police officer signaling he was leaving and a new officer had arrived. We now had 24-7 police protection. Izzy looked up at Chief, her stormy ocean eyes sad and distant.

"Dad, go home. Everything is ok now." She begged. Chief hadn't left since she'd been released from the hospital early this morning.

"I'm not going anywhere, Isabella." He said.

"Dad, go. I'm fine here. I'm safe with Jace and David." She gestured toward David and I lounging on the floor.

"Yeah, that's really reassuring." Chief grumbled.

"What's that supposed to mean?" Izzy snapped. Angry Izzy plus angry Chief equals giant fight.

"Considering both occurrences happened when they were around--"

"Don't you dare blame this on them!" She screamed, hopping up. David looked to me, confused. I just shook my head as their shouting match began.

"I'm not blaming them Isabella! I just said I'd feel a lot better if I were here than leaving you here with them!" Chief shouted.

"They're perfectly capable of protecting me Dad!" She screamed. Jack snaked his way out of the room.

"I beg to differ," Chief mumbled.

"You beg to differ? David got him to stop and leave didn't he? He hit him didn't he? He called the cops didn't he? What would you, the police god, have done in the situation huh?" She asked, crossing her arms over her chest. She winced when she gripped a bruise to tight.

"I would have killed the son of a bitch!" Chief screamed. There it was, the reason he was mad at David and I, because we didn't kill Mark when we had our chance to.

"If you can do such a better job then quit wasting your time here and go find him." Izzy hissed. Chief looked pained.

"Fine, but you have to call me if anything happens. Even if you hear a twig break, you call me!" He ordered.

"Alright," Izzy mumbled. Chief stormed out of the house slamming the door behind him. Jack poked his head out from his hiding spot in the kitchen.

"No more fight?" He asked Izzy. She sighed and nodded. She sat back down in her chair, she looked so tired. Jack tried once again to climb on her lap.

"No Jack," She whispered.

"Why not Mommy?" He asked, he sounded so hurt.

"Mommy doesn't feel good, why don't you go play with JJ?" I said. Jack sighed and walked off to find JJ.

"You ok?" David and I asked togather. He'd been treating her different since then, no more smart ass jokes. I knew she hated it. She hated being treated like she was broken. This time it was hard not to though, she looked so broken.
