Hanni's POV

When I got home, I let Milly go out to do her thing.

I felt lighter, happier, like I had broken free of the chains that had kept me bound to the pain and grief of my loss for the past six months.

As I waited for Milly in the bright sunlight, a feeling of deep peace came over me.

I would never, ever forget my dad.

He would be with me in everything I did for the rest of my life.

Releasing the chains of pain and guilt did not mean letting go.

My dad loved me, he would want me to be happy.

The relief that flooded my body almost made me sob. I held back my excitement and called Milly, walking back inside.

After feeding her, I sat down and drank a cup of tea. I thought about my dad the entire time I sat there, remembering the special moments we had shared, remembering the little quirks he had, imagining his face so clearly in my mind. I focused on what I had had, what some people never had for a minute.

I had had it for twenty-one years.

I was lucky, I had been blessed. When I got up to put my dishes in the sink, I was smiling.

I went to the bathroom, turned on the shower and undressed.

My scratches looked much better.

Apparently, the ointment Minji had applied had worked.

Minji...

I sighed, so many confusing emotions and feelings swirling through my body. A warm feeling filled my chest every time I thought of her.

I wanted to know her story.

I wanted to know everything about her.

But instinctively, I knew better than to dwell on the topic of what had happened the day her uncle shot her.

The Chief of Police, her uncle, shot her.

God, how does your mind forget about that?

And what the hell had happened to make that happen?

Half an hour later I was dressed in shorts and a T-shirt, my hair dried and pulled back into a ponytail.

As I put on my flip flops, I looked at my phone on the dresser and picked it up. I had two messages, I listened to them.

They were both Beomgyu's.

I threw the phone down.

I would call him back, but not right now.

I picked up Milly and started to leave to return to Minji's house. I considered something as I was about to close the door and turned around. A few minutes later, I was walking away from my cabin toward Briar Road.

"Hey." I smiled as Minji opened the door to her house. She had left the door slightly open so I could get in and take my bike inside and let Milly go off to find Kitty and the puppies.

She smiled back and opened the door wider for me to enter.

I walked in and turned to her.

I took a deep breath.

Thanks for having me back here, Minji . I bit my lip.

I hope you don't mind... after last night... there was no other place in the world I would rather be than here, with you today. I tilted my head, studying her. Thank you.
