Nina's POV

After we were checked in at the front desk, one of the workers showed us where mom was being held. They used the word "treated" and it didn't sound quite right to me.

"Here's the room. Who are the first two that will be going in?" The woman then asked, looking between the four of us.

"The two of us will go first" Hailey replied before I could, grabbing ahold of my hand and walking towards the door.

The worker walked inside with us and closed the door. I then saw my mom who was sitting down on the edge of the bed, looking as if she was in some sort of trance.

"You don't have to worry about her attacking you or anything. We're instructed to give our patients medication to calm them down. If anything were to happen, just press this button on the wall" The woman explained before taking her leave, not giving me a chance to ask any questions.

Medication?

I couldn't help but wonder if it was safe for her to be getting daily medication, considering that she's been on all sorts of drugs over the past few years.

Hailey was the first one to walk towards mom, not stopping until she was in front of her, blocking her view of the TV.

I watched in silence as she looked up at Hailey, as if just realizing we were in the room. "Hey mom" Hailey spoke out, her voice wavering slightly.

It wasn't until she turned to look at me when I noticed that mom was on the verge of crying, her hands slightly shaking. "Hailey... and Nina. I didn't think you two would want to see me" She whispered out in disbelief.

"We wanted to see you for some time now... I just wasn't sure when the right time would be" I replied back, not knowing if I should sit or remain standing. If it wasn't for my talk with Carla, I wouldn't even be here today.

Hailey was quick to sit next to mom, grabbing ahold of her hands to calm her down. "My baby girl... I'm so sorry for everything I've done" She cried, her lips beginning to quiver as she spoke.

I could tell that mom meant every word she said. It's been so long since she's acted like this. She looks like her old self, just thinking about it made me want to cry as well.

"I forgive you mom. Even with everything that happened, I could never stay mad at you" Hailey reassured her as tears streamed down her own face.

Even after all this time, I never told Hailey what mom said about her that day I went to grab her things. She looked so broken when everything started to fall apart, I didn't want to make things worse. But I guess she figured it out herself. Even so, she's still holding on. That's what I love about her, she doesn't give up.

After a few moments, mom patted the empty seat next to her before speaking. "Come here Nina, have a seat" She spoke out softly.

I ended up giving in and walked towards them, sitting beside her as I desperately tried calming my nerves. I couldn't help but be tense around her. It's been so long since we sat next to each other like this, without arguing. It felt so weird.

That's all it's been over the past few years... almost all of Hailey's life. When I got to that age and moved out, mom and I were constantly at each other's throats.

I remember how upset I was when she would bad talk dad and barely be home to take care of Hailey. I even said a few things that I began to regret.

Anger does that to you.
