Nina's POV

I couldn't help but feel nervous.

I've been thinking about this for so long, but I'm afraid that I might mess things up. What if this affects his relationship with Hailey?

No... dad isn't like that. It's just like Luca told me that day.

Family is family.

My dad and I were currently sitting in my living room since I told him we needed to talk. After a while he cleared his throat, "What's up pumpkin? You've been acting strange lately" He asked.

A small sigh came from me before I turned so that I was now facing him, "This has been on my mind... ever since that day and I feel like you should know" I explained, watching as he nodded his head.

"The day when I went over to mom's house to get Hailey's stuff... she was acting weirder than usual and said some things-" I began before he interrupted.

"She didn't hurt you did she?" He asked in a serious tone.

I then shook my head, "No, she didn't. I also had Luca there with me" I replied back, him nodding his head.

"That's good. What did she say?" He then asked me.

"When Luca and I got there, there was a man who opened the door. Now that I think about it, he looked kind of familiar but I don't know his name. The house was an complete mess dad... I never seen it like that. All I could smell was cigarettes and beer. Mom didn't show up until I was about halfway through with packing Hailey's stuff.

Mom was actually glad that she wasn't staying there anymore, she said that I was doing her a favor and that she doesn't care about her" I explained, watching as he frowned.

"I'm sure she didn't mean that... you know how your mother gets when she drinks-" He began.

"Dad could you please stop trying to justify her actions? After all she's done to you, you're still sticking up for her. She said Hailey wasn't even supposed to be here, and that you're not her actual father" I told him.

After a while, he brought his hands together and looked at me. "I see... what your mother said is true. Hailey is not my biological daughter. In fact, I bet my life her father is that man you saw that day" He spoke out.

I couldn't help but look at him in shock, "So you already knew?" He then smiled before placing a hand on my shoulder.

"I've known ever since she was pregnant with Hailey. Even so, that doesn't mean I would treat her any different than you. She's my daughter, whether by blood or not. It doesn't matter to me.

Your mother was upset that I forgave her for cheating. I guess she wanted me to lash out on her but I'm not that type of man. You reap what you sow. If she wanted to cheat, then so be it" A few tears began to stream down my cheeks as I listened to him.

"I been gave up on your mother, but I will always love her. I stayed so that I could protect the two of you. She knew who Hailey's father was, which is why she lied" He added.

I then wiped the tears away from my face, "What do you mean?" I asked.

"Before your mother and I were together, she was with him. He may not look like it off the back, but he's a dangerous man Nina. He's the reason why she acts like that. I don't really know their history but I believed that I could help her. After she had you, she had changed. She was actually happy... we all were.

I'm assuming he came back into her life a little while after that, her being pregnant with Hailey years later. She knew that he would have her kill the baby if he knew it was his, which is why she said she was my daughter at first. Your mother told you out of spite, she wanted to rile you up. But one thing I know for sure is that she doesn't regret having Hailey" He explained.

That man... is he really that dangerous?

Why would mom be around someone like him?

I was soon brought out of my thoughts when dad wrapped his arms around me, pulling me in a tight hug. "You have nothing to worry about pumpkin. Your mother just needs help... I don't want this to affect the way you live your life" He stated. I nodded my head as I hugged him back.

"I know dad"

I was going to handle this my way.
