Yeonjun POV:

"Babe, what was that?"

Haru practically hissed in my ear, effortlessly catching me off guard and pulling my head out of thoughts from earlier that day. I had never heard her sound so hostile.

I was walking her home after school, but the tension between us was far too palpable for us to simply ignore it.

She must have been really upset about the way I allowed Juyoung to speak out on Jiseul.

"I'm sorry that I didn't say anything to Juyoung, but Jiseul was really running her mouth back there. Someone would have said something either way."

"She's my friend! If I'm on her side, you should be too!"

My eyes widened in surprise when she suddenly raised her voice. I wasn't used to being yelled at, especially by my own girlfriend.

I looked into her eyes to try and understand her properly. With most people in a situation like this, they would feel more hurt than angry, but all I could see was irritation written all over her face.

"Babe, let's take a breather, okay? You look a litt-"

"It's because you like Hyewon, isn't it?"

I initially felt my mind go blank, a huge question mark buffing out any other thoughts I might have had to express to her.

Her accusation was a completely alien concept to me, almost sounding too ridiculous for Haru to even be serious.

"I don't like her. She's.. like my little sister."

"Get your head out of the clouds! She's Juyoung's little sister, not yours, genius!"

"She was actually born only twenty min-"

"-and don't even bother making excuses! I've seen the way you look at her!"

I had never seen Haru get so upset over something before, but I couldn't bring myself to empathise with her, as she was sounding completely unbelievable. She was misunderstanding everything.

"I'm not jealous. I'm just protecti-"

"I didn't say anything about being jealous! It's obvious that you like that slut!"

Up until that moment, I was easily staying calm because of my willingness to get the argument over with as soon as possible, but the word she used against Hyewon suddenly had me just as involved in the quarrel as Haru.

"She's not a slut,"

My voice was a little louder now, as it seemed like she wouldn't be able to hear me if I spoke any softer.

"and I don't like her."

"Don't fucking lie to me, Choi Yeonjun!"

I clenched my jaw tightly when she continued to refuse to believe me, her volume raising with my temper at that moment.

My hands balled into fists, trying to keep myself from lashing out.

After a few moments of me staring sharply into her eyes, I looked down form Haru with a deep sigh, shaking my head with the thought of what I was going to say next.

"This isn't going to work."

I slowly raised my head to face her, instantly met with the sight of her eyes wide with disbelief, and face a gentle shade of red with upsetness.

Once again, I only saw her fury growing, no signs of regret or sadness visible on her face.

"Are you seriously breaking up with me for her?"

It was almost unbelievable how she still managed to sound like she thought she was being wronged, anyone listening to her question would have assumed I was in the wrong.

I sighed again, closing my eyes as I tilted my head back slightly.

"This isn't about her, it's about us."

Haru's face contorted with anger, her brows pulling down over her eyes as she visibly gritted her teeth as the light red on her face darkened slightly.

"I'll kill that bitch!"

She screamed out before storming off, leaving me in a state of worry, confusion and irritability.

Although a part of me was upset about having to break up with my girlfriend over our first fight, the better part of me couldn't help but worry more about Hyewon.

Jeonghan POV:

I let out a deep sigh of relief when I managed to bring Hyewon out of the cafeteria, glad to have finally got her away from Jiseul and her thoughtless words.

We didn't speak for a good while, but I kept glancing at here to see any changes in her behaviour.

From the outside, she looked perfectly calm to me, but she was much quieter than she usually was in my presence. I wanted to ask her how she was feeling about it, but I didn't want to coax her if she didn't want to talk about it.

I couldn't help but feel guilty about the whole thing; I could easily tell that Jiseul was going to escalate the argument, but I didn't do anything about it.

I should have gotten Hyewon away earlier, then none of this would have happened.

"Why are you suddenly so quiet?"

Hyewon suddenly asked me, following he question with a light chuckle, which I could sense a strange undertone of forcedness in.

I was a little startled that she was the one to talk first, contrary to the original plan that I would eventually gather enough courage to speak first, but mostly startled by the unsettlingly calm tone she spoke in.

I had assumed she would be feeling potentially vulnerable and sensitive at that moment. I guess Jiseul must have just been saying the first thing that popped into her head.

A relieved grin grew on my face, deducing that Hyewon wasn't as bothered as I thought she was.

"Sorry about that... I thought Jiseul was bothering you."

Hyewon shook her head, chuckling amusedly at this. An embarrassed blush spread across my cheeks, noticing how silly I must have sounded.

"Don't apologize, she was kind of getting annoying."

My tense expression quickly loosened when she didn't seem upset about my choice of taking us away from the group. I wasn't the type to usually do anything unexpected, so I was glad that it didn't end up badly.

It just felt almost painful to see her looking so uncomfortable, so I figured that I had to do something about it.
