The Knight And The Servant

Me and a childhood friend were apart for years due to different paths in our kingdom; I was made for great quests in the name of our honorable Queen, while they... They were made for a life of servitude for her... They were her servant but the very best of the kingdom no one could compare to their talents of cook, housekeeper and caring.

Every time I came back to the castle in a hurry, I came and directly went back to another quest; I'm the most busy knight of the Queen. So we never had the chance to see each other every time I crossed the gates of the Queen's castle.

Once the Queen requested me to stay for dinner after years of loyal service for her.

During dinner, my friend and I were eyeing each other hoping to have a chance to speak to one another to narrate all the stories we missed of being apart for so long.

The dinner was extremely long but finally came to an end.

The Queen is extremely satisfied with the work we both did for all these years from what she told me about myself and what she also told to my friend.

My friend and I didn't sleep that night, we spoke about my adventures and they spilled the tea on the court. They were amazed by the great stories I've been through, wondering how I was still alive while I was amazed by how some people from the court can be this fake with all the powers they have and how my friend is able to keep their mouth shut with all the secrets they keep that can lead to a revolution if the people were about to know about all of this.

I've spent a few days at the castle, the Queen gave me a week of peace.

I've spent a lot of time with my friend and feel that something has changed between us after all those years apart... Life separated us and gave us different lifestyles for all those years, we changed a lot on our side.

I told them about this weird feeling that I have about our friendship and felt it too but is not worried about it because it's normal after all the time that has passed since we both started to work for her Majesty.

I went to their place and to share a dinner with them and saw that they are married and have three wonderful young children and I felt uncomfortable for missing their wedding and not knowing about their kids. I deeply apologize for my absence at their wedding and for the birth of their children.

When I came back to the bedroom the Queen gave me for my week off I felt like something is missing in my life. I felt envious to have a family like my friend has and I tortured my mind for the whole night.

The next morning I came to the Queen to tell her about my sudden need to get married and start a family. She was astonished by my sudden request and wondered why I suddenly have this urgent need to start this new kind of life. I told her about my dinner at my friend's place last night and my realization about what I've missed for all this time.

She understood and gave me less quests in the furthest lands of the kingdom and gave me more quests closer to her castle.

In a few months of time, I spent more time with my friend and got to know their spouse and children and I started to woo a person whom I soon married.

We started to get the family I was hoping to get the day I realized I was missing something important in my life when I got back to my friend.
