I stand in Penelope's office, alone, as I wait for her to return. She texted me that she had something that she needed to show me but she is not here.
I hear the door open and I raise my gaze from my phone. It's Morgan.
"Where's Garcia?" he wonders
"You tell me..." I answer.
The door opens again. "Here you are! Why aren't you replying to your text messages?" Penelope asks him as soon as she walks in
"I came directly here" he replies in his defense
"Yeah, but I thought you didn't see it, so I went to find you--"
"Pen" I cut off her ranting
"Right, sorry. I called you two here because I have big big -major- information" she says as she sits in her chair.
She pulls surveillance footage on the screen. "It's Doyle. I mean I'm pretty sure it's him. It's blurry and, you know, he's not like posing for the camera or anything like that, but you said he'd find Declan and it's been a while, but now he's there, driving by Declan's school" she explains as she shows us the video over and over again
"Good job, babygirl" Morgan says as he rubs her shoulder
"Do we call Hotch now?" I ask
"Yeah" he answers
"I got it. You go check on Declan in person" I order confidently, even though I am not really in charge.
Hotch has been on temporary duty leading an investigative taskforce for the last 4 months and we have kept him in the dark about our investigation on Doyle. He probably knows we are working on something, but I have no idea how much he knows. Either way, I am going to find out once I call him.
"Hotchner" he answers after many attempts
"Hey, it's your long distance" I joke, because even now that he is across the world, he continues to call me for weekly evaluations over Skype. "How are things out there?"
"You know, long days, some territorial issues to work out. Nothing surprising. How's everything there?"
"Well, something is up..."
"I figured" he sighs
"How?"
"You called me voluntarily"
"Good point"
"So, what happened?"
"We found Declan Doyle" I begin
"What?"
"Finding the kid was the only way we could find Doyle. And he is safe for now. We had surveillance at his house and his school for a few months now" I explain
"Natalie, I didn't authorize this" he reminds me
"I know you didn't, but we worked out a system with Morgan, and -recently- Garcia. However, the important news is that we think Doyle may have found Declan, too".
I hear his deep sigh. "Alright, I'm coming back" he says eventually . "You make sure you have eyes on Doyle until I am there. And if it's him, then you take the shot"
"Yes, sir". This is an order I will gladly follow.
I hang up and I run back to Morgan and Garcia. "He said to take the shot" I announce
"That's all he said?" Morgan asks, surprised
"Yeah, but he's pissed"
"I can live with that. Call JJ and Rossi for briefing" he says.
