Accidental Infidelity

Diego had been so kind to drive me to our house, kahit pa tumanggi ako dahil nakakahiya na. I have already troubled him enough and he said, he had an appointment today. Baka nga ma-de-delay pa siya dahil sa akin. He assured me that it was alright, even so, I feel bad.

Napagtanto ko rin na mag-isa lang siya sa kaniyang bahay. He owned that big two-storey house, with a beautiful interior. Ang sabi niya sa akin ay hindi pa raw tapos ang pagdi-disenyo sa loob pero napagpasyahan niya ng lumipat kaagad. He didn't like the tall building of his condo because it requires him to ride the elevator everyday.

"Is that your house?" tanong niya sa akin nang bumagal na ang takbo ng kaniyang sasakyan. My house came to view. That three-storey mansion which screams my family's wealth and my boring life.

Kapag siguro nagdala ako rito ng kahit sino da mga nakatrabaho ni Ryker, hindi sila maniniwala na rito ako nakatira. Hindi naman kasi iyon halata sa klase ng aking pananamit. I wasn't into luxury things unlike my other cousins. My parents weren't really that extravagant when it comes to luxurious things, except for the house. Hindi ko alam kung may ano sa pamilya namin, it's just that they love to show off their houses. Kahit hindi naman necessary, ginawang tatlong palapag ang aming bahay dahil lang sa pagpapakitang-gilas ng mga magulang ko.

"I know you're not expecting it to be this big but surprise," I said, lacking enthusiasm.

"You're a Tuason and you're Leandra Lim's cousin. I put two and two together and realized you're a part of a big Chinese clan."

I tucked a hair behind my ear. "It's not like I'm proud of it. Kaya ayaw kong magyabang kasi wala naman akong napapatunayan sa pamilya ko."

"Being passionate and good at your job is something to be proud about, Lieve."

I shrugged. "My parents are against it. Anyway, thank you for taking me home. Sobrang nakakaabala na talaga ako sa'yo." I smiled apologetically.

"It's nothing, Lieve. You helped me when I'm in need of your help and now we're even."

I don't think we were. Hindi niya siguro alam kung ano ang naging epekto ng presensya niya sa buhay ko.  I think my life somehow changed without me knowing it. Noon, kapag nasa trabaho ako wala ni isang naglalakas loob na kausapin ako. But Diego Valmorida shamelessly approached me and talked to me. At kahit hindi inaasahan, may parte sa akin na masaya dahil nakilala ko siya.

And now that I am out of Ryker's life, I now have no reason to meet him. Siguro hindi na rin kami magkikita kasi wala na rin naman kaming magiging koneksyon sa isa't isa. I met him because of Ryker, because of the nature of my job...and they are also the same reasons why we'll never meet again.

I went out of his car after thanking him once more. Hindi agad ang siya umalis kaya naisip ko na baka hinihintay niya lang na makapasok ako. I smiled inwardly thinking of that gesture.

I was about to push the gate to open when I heard him call my name. My shoulders flinched and looked back immediately.

"Yes? M-may nakalimutan ka bang sabihin?" tanong ko.

He held the roof of his car. As if the weather favored him, Diego glowed under the radiant sun.

"I was thinking if you want to come with me..." panimula niya.

"What?"

He let go of of his roof and closed his door. Naglakad siya patungo sa akin. I held my chest subtly when he stopped in front of me. Nakita ko ang pasimple niyang pagsilip sa mataas naming bahay. His eyes found mine after that.
