Scattered across western Massachusetts, southern Vermont, southwestern New Hampshire, eastern New York, and northwestern Connecticut are villages and towns that contain sizeable wizarding populations. They are described as "communities within a community" according to Hermione Granger. The Berkshires are also one of the largest wizard-friendly areas in the United States. Many Ilvermorny students who are from New England live in these villages. Following the passing of Rappaport's Law, all witches and wizards were forced to find new places to stay hidden. Away from the non-magical population. Because of this, many chose to move into small villages in numbers, as this allowed them to band together and rely on each other for mutual support. The largest all-wizarding village in The Berkshires is Steward Square in Adams, Massachusetts.
