TRANSLATIONS AT THE BOTTOM

Percy woke up groggily, getting out his bed, his brain barely functioning. It was too early...way too early.

"Percy, you gotta get up," a voice said from outside his door. Percy, being tired, ignored it.

"Córrele Percy!" Leo walked into his room, pushing open his door. "Annabeth sent me to get you. It's breakfast time."

"Es muy temprano para despertar..." Percy groaned, trying to get back to sleep.

"Córrele, Annabeth te está esperando." Leo replied, then froze. He turned to Percy, who was attempting to get his blankets which had fallen off his bed without get out of bed.

"Percy..." Leo's tone was warning.

"Si?"

"Did you just speak Español? Fluently?"

Percy shot up, banging his head on the top bunk in the process, then look Leo straight in the eye. "Please don't tell anyone?"

Leo nodded. "Sure Percy, but I have some questions for you."

Percy sighed, but agreed nonetheless. "Shoot."

"How do you know Spanish?"

"My grandfather is from Guadalajara. He taught my mum Spanish, and she taught me."

"Why don't you want anyone to know?"

Percy hung his head low. "English isn't my first language, Spanish is. I used to live in a neighbourhood where we talked Spanish and English, but I picked up Spanish much quicker. So I was picked on when I couldn't understand English that well."

Percy hugged his legs, remembering the insults they used to hurl at him...so long ago.

"Percy..." Leo felt bad for his friend. "You can tell us, we won't mind. I speak Spanish, Piper speaks French, so what? You already speak Greek and Latin!"

"Yeah...I guess."

"Now c'mon!" Leo was on a roll. "Let's go down there, eat breakfast and chat in Spanish so that everyone will get really confused!"

Percy grinned, getting out of bed. "Hagámoslo wey."

—time skip to breakfast—

Percy and Leo were having a rapid fire conversation as they walked down to the Dining Pavilion.

"¡No no no! Quiero comida azul porque el azul hace que sepa mejor."

"Como?"

Percy shrugged. "Simplemente lo hace."

They sit down at a table (let's just say that the godly parent table rule is gone) still talking in Spanish.

"Creo que más miel de maple hace que los panqueques sepan mejor."

Leo nodded. "Cierto cier-"

"What in Hades is going on here?" Annabeth interrupted them, having witnessed the conversation and having no idea what they're saying.

"We're having a conversation." Leo said, faking confusion. Percy played along, nodding his head.

"Well, obviously." Said Piper, "But you guys are talking in Spanish."

Percy frowned. "Español? Yo no hablo español."

"Um...Leo? What did he just say?" Jason asked, extremely confused.

"He said, 'Spanish? I don't speak Spanish." Leo translated. "But you guys should've understood that."

Annabeth, Jason and Piper stared at the two boys. "I'm so confused..." Jason said, rubbing his temples.

Suddenly, Leo and Percy burst out laughing, they couldn't keep a straight face anymore. "Oh my...oh my gods!" Percy said between the laughs. "Your faces!"

"We got you with that one!" Said Leo, and the two boys high fived.

"Wait, Percy," Asked Annabeth, "Since when do you speak Spanish?"

Percy looked up at her. "I've always been able to speak Spanish, I just didn't decide to speak it aloud. I was bullied when I was a kid because I couldn't understand English that well, so I wanted to have a fresh start when I came to camp. No Spanish speaking weirdo kid, just your regular kid from New York."

"Oh Seaweed Brain...you know that we won't judge you!" Annabeth hugged Percy.

"Thanks..." He mumbled, smiling as they pulled apart.

"Now, to continue the conversation," Leo interrupted their little scene. "Just how exactly does making the food blue and drowning it in syrup make it taste better?"
