Time: Present

Hamilton age: 33

Washington age: 42

Context: Hammy and John are both a little too single on Valentine's Day.

Hamilton pov:

It was Valentine's Day. Yay.

I know, I should be happy. But until you spend three hours helping your ten year old son make valentines for his whole class, don't talk to me.

I groaned and got out of bed to just another day of work. Divorced life SUCKS. I have a great son, but why can't he spend Valentine's Day at Eliza's house? It was her idea to do those stupid valentines for his class anyway, why was I stuck with dealing with it? Whatever. Positive thoughts, positive thoughts. It's a holiday.

I put on my clothes and drove to work as soon as Phillip got on the bus.

I must say I was surprised to find a bouquet of flowers on my desk. This must be either something that Washington did for everybody, or Angelica was flirting with me again. Don't get me wrong, she's fucking gorgeous, but it just feels a little weird to be dating my ex wife's sister.

John's pov:

I nervously knocked on Washington's office doors, and they were opened sooner than I wanted. "John? What can I do for you today?" He asked. "Alex hates all holidays, right?" I blurted out. "Well... yes. It's an open secret around this office. What's this all about?" He asked. "Well, he divorced Eliza two years ago, right?" "Yeah... John, I can't give out information about his marriage. That's his job." "No, I know. I just kinda thought... well... I want to ask him out. Badly. And it's Valentine's Day, so it's perfect. I just need your help, because you're the only one who knows him better than me." Washington sighed sadly.

"Well, Alex hasn't had much time for love, John, and I don't want to say this, but I can't sit here and watch you hurt yourself. He probably forgot about love a long time ago." He finally explained. "I knew it..." I mumbled. This is pretty humiliating, if you ask me. "What have you done so far?" He asked hopefully. "Well... I asked Hercules what I should do, because he's the one dating a French dude, and they're romantic. He told me to anonymously leave flowers at his desk." I admitted. "Okay... that's a start. He hasn't fully engaged himself in his work yet, so if you want to make any moves, I'd do it now." He said. I nodded and started running. "Thank you!" I yelled right before I closed the door.

On my way to Alex's office, I stopped in the bathroom to rehearse what I was going to say. "I love you?" Too straightforward. "Wanna hang out sometime?" Too vague. "Want to get dinner on Saturday?" Perfect, and I happen to know that Alex's son is at Eliza's house on Saturday.

"Hey Alex" I said, stepping into his office. "Oh... hey John. Wassup." He said, more like a statement than a real question. "Well... I was just wondering... do you want to go out on Saturday? Like for dinner?" I asked nervously. "Oh? Well, I mean... sure, why not?" "Okay, meet me around nine?" He nodded and went back to work.

I ran back to Washington's and told him what happened.

"John, I'm sorry, but it didn't sound like he was very interested in the idea of a date at all." Washington pointed out when I finished my story. "Well, he said yes, so I'll just go and see what happens." He sighed sadly.

"Okay, so, I figured we would go to this nice Italian place a few blocks away from my apartment. It's really fancy, so I see you came prepared." I said as we walked out to my car. We drove to the restaurant, and Alex seemed happy at the idea of going in.

When we were leaving the restaurant, Alex spoke up. "You know, I gotta be honest, I was unsure about the idea of dating again, but you've made me realize how much I missed it. Thank you." He smiled a rare smile at me. "Yeah... it's really... it's really nice, isn't it?" I asked, as we sat on a park bench and looked up at the stars. "It's a clear night. I always liked clear nights. They remind me of when I was a kid in the Caribbean." Alex said, pointing up at the Big Dipper. "Woah. Sometimes I forget there's constellations, you know, because we're in the city and all." "Yeah. Oh shit-" He stopped leaning on my shoulder, which I didn't even realize was happening. "Is everything alright?" I asked nervously. "It's Eliza..." He whispered through gritted teeth. I looked through the corner of my eye and saw Eliza walking by herself down the street.

"Must be a failed date." I joked as soon as she was out of earshot. "So, second date?" Alex asked. "Hell yeah." I responded.

The next day

"Washington! It was the best date ever!" I ran into his office yelling. "Good for you John. I'm sorry I didn't believe in you two." "Well. You can suck it, because Tuesday is our second date!" I screamed. "Well John, that's no way to act towards your fath- boss. Your boss." I totally heard father. "Sorry Dad!" I yelled as I ran out of the room.
