school finally ended. it was incredibly boring. i fucking hated american school.

i went to the field to see what exactly i had to do to try out for the cross country team.

"hey! are you here for try outs?" a woman asked as she shot me a smile.

"i am." i replied.

"cool! i'm couch henly! i'll take you to the locker rooms to keep your stuff and then come on back out here." she smiled brightly as she motioned for me to follow her.

as soon as we got to the locker room, i saw 20 other girls.

i quickly changed into a long sleeved workout shirt and shorts before running out to the field.

we did a couple warm ups before gathering around.

"okay! i'm so happy to see everyone here! i have a bus prepared to take you guys to the try outs sight. i'll explain more once we're all situated." couch henly smiled as she motioned for all of us to follow her out to the bus.

as soon as we were all seated and driving off she stood up and said, "okay, so as you all know, we can only take 7 people on the team. we are the number one high school team, so try outs aren't meant to be easy. you're going to run 8 miles and the seven people with the fastest times are going to be on the team." the couch spoke before sitting back down.

easy. i used to run 12.

we got out of the bus at a beautiful hiking area and the couch told us to get in line, before we all went off.

everyone raced ahead of me, but i wasn't concerned. i knew they would run out of energy.

i was right.

we were about 6 miles in and i was in front of the majority of the people by at least a mile.

i continued running with my music looking around adoring the beauty of nature.

it only took me 20 more minutes to run the remaining 2 miles before i circled back to where the couch was.

i finished slightly out of breath and looked up at here.

"jeez. you finished in record time." she spoke slightly amazed.

"i was on the team back in australia and most of the running we did was around 12-16 miles, so 8 miles wasn't too bad." i shrugged as i drank some water.

"you're going to have no problems fitting in here." couch smiled softly as she stood around waiting.

soon enough, we were all back on the bus.

"so, everyone did a fantastic job! i'll post who's going to be on the team tomorrow at school. good job!" couch henly smiled as she sat down.

as soon as we got back to the school, i ran into the locker room and showered real quick before changing back into my normal clothes.

i walked out and saw melody, tyler, and cole standing around.

"is there a reason you are all standing around?" i asked as i walked up to them.

"we didn't have a ride and were debating where to go." tyler chuckled.

"fair. i'm going to head back to my house, you're welcome to join me while you think." i smiled softly as i walked away.

"how did try outs go?" melody asked as she caught up to me.

"i finished first. it really wasn't too bad." i shrugged as i lit a cigarette.

"tory, if you're going to smoke at least share." tyler groaned.

i chuckled and handed each of them a cigarette.

the walk home was relaxing. it was already dark outside and we were all laughing and having fun.

all of a sudden my phone rung and i answered it.

"hello?" i asked.

"tory? i'm about to leave work, do you need one of us to come get you?" ashton asked.

"nope. i'm walking back with a couple friends of mine." i replied.

"oh okay! i'll see you at home." ashton spoke before hanging up.

"who was that?" cole asked.

"my bio dad who i'm staying with. he's pretty chill." i shrugged.

"you should come over one time. i'm throwing a little get together with a couple friends." tyler smiled.

"bet. send me the details. this is my stop." i smiled as i began to walk inside.

"it's a bit hard to send you the details without your number." tyler laughed as he handed me his phone.

i quickly put my number in before saying goodbye and walking inside.

i didn't even notice ashton sitting there at the table with his arms crossed.

"so, how was school." he asked scaring the living shit out of me.

"pretty decent." i replied dryly.

"who were those kids?" ashton asked.

"people i think are going to be my friends here in the states."
