Chapter 21

“What did you say?” Mike nearly yelled at him. He was furious!

The maitre looked at him astound. He did not expect such a reaction from a customer, let alone a blind one. In his little universe he finally had a work position, where he could play god and everyone would succumb to his will.

“Sir there is no reason for you to get upset, like I said we will assist you to your every need, you will feel no need of your helper here.”

“She is my date you arrogant rude scam! I demand to see chef Moore immediately.” Mike wanted to deck him. It was one of those times he wished he could see so that he could grab the man from his neck and throw him to the other side of the restaurant.

“There is no reason for you to be upset like that sir or to call chef Moore. There is a dress code to this restaurant and we all most adhere to that. I am sorry if you feel I offended your date, but if you could see how she is dressed I am sure you would agree with me.”

Mike felt like a bull in a shop full of glass ornaments. He was ready to break everything he could reach, starting with that piece of sh…t that posed toady as a maitre. He had planned the whole date to a T and he could feel all his plans and dreams crumbling in front of him. No way Nicky would accept going out with him after that. As he was ready to pounce on the douchebag, he felt Nicky’s hand clasping his arm.

“It is alright Mike, we don’t have to dine here. I am sure we will be able to find some other restaurant to eat.” Mike felt her hand tremble in his and like a wave her embarrassment, encompassed him. He extended his hand to her shoulders and hugged her close to him. She was right, chef Moore was a good man and a dear friend, he didn’t deserve to have a bar fight in his restaurant, but someone had to fire the arrogant pr...k in front of him. He was giving this place a bad name.

“Shhh don’t worry my sweetness I will take care of this. No one has the right to speak to you like that.” He turned toward the maitre again and with calmness he didn’t feel he told him. “I said I need to speak to chef Moore, and we will not leave until I do.”

Thankfully they didn’t have to wait for the maitre to make the decision of calling chef Moore. A waiter that recognised Mike as a frequent customer and a friend to the chef, had gone to the kitchen to call him about the problem that had rise. So before the maitre had a chance to give any reply, chef Moore’s deep rumbling voice was heard.

“Mike my friend what seems to be the trouble? Is the table I chose for you not to your liking? We wouldn’t want to disappoint you, or my daughter will never speak to me again.” That last part was part warning for the maitre to keep his trap shut, if he knew what was best for him.

“I wouldn’t know if it is a good table or not, since this man here won’t allow us to enter. Apparently we are not good looking enough to enter your establishment my dear chef.” At that statement Nicky saw chef Moore’s eyes bulge out of their sockets.

“Excuse me? Who said such a thing?” He growled and looked towards his employees trying to find the guilty party. The maitre was looking at his feet and he was red as a tomato, obviously wishing he could be invisible. His chances of remaining a maitre in this restaurant were pretty slim at this point.
