GerEng Week 2021 Day 7: Safety

Author's Note: One of my favorite things is making Arthur a werewolf. I first did it with a GerFruk paranormal au I made (which I'll post at some point on here, but it's available on my ao3 right now if you are interested). But this has nothing to do with that au, it just inspired me to write more werewolf Arthur.

It was a quiet night. The moon shone full overhead as Ludwig ran through the forest out back, calling for his lover. He never realized falling in love with a werewolf would make life this difficult. At least Arthur was more like a big dog in his wolf form as opposed to a blood-thirsty beast, but that came with its own problems. Take that current night for example. Arthur had gotten out and was running around without much thought, risking what he is being revealed or getting lost and waking up naked in the middle of town. So far they'd been lucky, but that was because Ludwig was there to find him and bring Arthur home safely.

They probably should have figured out a better plan, but fences did no good because Arthur could scale most of them and it's not like Ludwig wanted to leash him (at least not in that kind of context). He could always restrain him another way, but they hadn't quite found a material that wouldn't break when Arthur attempted to get out of the restraints. Perhaps a taller fence would work, but those were expensive and they'd need the proper material so Arthur didn't break it. For now, all Ludwig could do during the full moon was try to distract Arthur, keep him indoors, and chase him down when he got out.

"Arthur," Ludwig called, "Arthur come here this instant."

Having not had much luck in the past hour of his search, Ludwig opted to take a moment to catch his breath and hopefully see or hear something that could lead him in the right direction. He cursed himself for not bringing water especially considering how hot summer nights could be.

He was just about to start searching again when he heard a howl of pain coming from somewhere ahead of him. Immediately getting to his feet, he ran towards the sound.

"Oh Arthur," Ludwig sighed as he came upon a heap of whimpering golden fur. It appeared as though he had tripped over a tree root and received a nasty gash on his front paw. When Ludwig got closer, Arthur growled, eyes narrow and fangs bared until he realized who it was.

Arthur sat himself up, letting out another howl when he accidentally put pressure on his injury. He leaned his head against Ludwig's shoulder, whining slightly as if apologizing.

"This is why you don't run off," Ludwig chastised. But he still wrapped an arm around the other man (or wolf). "Ah well...we'll discuss this tomorrow morning. Right now we just have to get you home."

Despite Arthur's wolf form being bigger than a normal wolf, Ludwig somehow still managed to be able to hoist him on his shoulders. It made the rough terrain of the forest floor harder to maneuver, but Ludwig managed to get them out and back home relatively without trouble.

He set Arthur down on the couch before heading to the bathroom for a washcloth and bandages to tend to Arthur's wound. After Ludwig cleaned and wrapped it, he covered a now sleeping Arthur with a blanket. Ludwig himself took the lounger, not wanting to be too far from Arthur in case he wandered off again. It wasn't the most comfortable, but after all that running, Ludwig managed to fall asleep.

---

Ludwig awoke to the sound of the doorbell ringing. He could already feel the crick in his neck without even having to move, but at least he woke up to the warmth of a blanket covering him. After a minute or so of preparing himself, he slowly hoisted himself off of the couch, stretching out his stiff muscles and joints as he did so.

"Good morning," Arthur greeted as he passed by the living room, two paper bags in hand. "I ordered breakfast so come to the dining room when you are ready." Ludwig smiled slightly following his lover. "You didn't have to," he said, though he knew it was pointless.

"Uh... yeah I kind of do. Sorry for being such a pain in the neck every full moon." "It's fine," Ludwig sighed, arms wrapping around Arthur's waist while said man got out the food.

"No, it's not. We should invest in getting a higher fence."

"Agreed, but out of what material?"

"We still got to figure that out," Arthur groaned.

Ludwig placed a kiss on the back of Arthur's head. "We'll figure it out. Until then, for your safety, I'll just keep a close eye on you and chase you down when I have to. After all, this only happens one night a month."

Arthur let out a dejected sigh. "Fine...but expect me to spoil you after and no more sleeping in the armchair you git."

"Deal," Ludwig chuckled, "I love you."

"Love you too. Now onto breakfast."
