Broken Bones

Gracie's POV (6 Years Old)

I sat in the break room at the district kicking my legs back and forth with boredom. 'I'm hungry' I thought to myself, I opened up the cupboard and saw a packet of Oreos on the top shelf. I reached up but with no success and sighed. I can't ask for help because I've already got in trouble for getting in the way twice today, so I'm gonna have to figure out how to get them myself. I looked around for inspiration and decided that my best option was to drag a chair across from the table. I climbed up on to the chair but I was still to short! I went up on to my tiptoes and reached up, but just as my fingertips brushed the packet I lost my balance and fell to the floor with a loud thud, hearing a crack as my arm bent back on the impact. Tears immediately fell down my face as the pain in my arm shot through my body and I let out a blood curdling scream. Within seconds Jay was in the room with a panicked look on his face, shortly followed by Adam, Kevin and Hailey.

"What the hell happened?" Jay asked alarmed,

"It hurts Jay" I sobbed clinging on to my now swollen arm,

"Ok ok ok" he said trying to calm me "can you show me?" He asked trying to take my arm from my hold. He only moved my arm slightly before I screamed out in pain again. Looking up at the three detectives with a knowing expression then back at me,

"Can you move your fingers?" Adam asked from his place in the doorway,

"I can but It really hurts" I hiccuped as Jay looked up at Adam,

"Hospital?" He asked him as Adam nodded,

"I think so" he confirmed with a sympathetic smile,

"Ok Gracie, how about we go see Will?" He encouraged. I nodded with tears still falling thick and fast down my cheeks,

"I'm scared Jay" I sobbed as Jay pulled me into his chest and gave me a kiss on the head,

"Hey, you don't need to be scared" he comforted "now we're gonna go to the hospital and they're gonna make your arm feel better, ok?" He asked, clearly trying to give me as much reassurance as he could.

"I'll drive you to med" Hailey offered as Jay picked me up bridal style,

"You sure?" He asked as Hailey nodded,

"Of course" she replied, grabbing her keys as we headed to the stairs, a chorus of 'good lucks' and 'it will be fines' from the group as we left.

Hailey drove us to med and Jay sat in the back of the car with me, calling Will on the way to let him know we were coming. Hailey pulled up at the entrance of med where Will was already waiting anxiously,

"Hey, what've you been doing huh?" He asked as he opened the car door and carried me in to the ED, being careful to hold me so my bad arm was away from him,

"My arm really hurts Will" I sobbed again as he gave me a kiss on the side of the head,

"I know baby" he sympathised "we're gonna make it feel better, ok?" He assured as Maggie directed us in to one of the cubicles,

"Dr Rhodes is on his way, and I've transferred all your patients over to Dr Manning" she informed Will and he put me down on the hospital bed,

"Thanks Maggie" he thanked her as Jay walked in to the cubicle, shortly followed by Connor.

"Hey Gracie" he said with a smile "so you've hurt your arm huh?" He asked as he sanitised his hands and walked over to me.

"Yeah" I confirmed with a hiccup "it really hurts,"

"Can you let me take a look at it and then I can see about taking some of that pain away" he explained as I nodded. He examined my arm but when he tried to straighten my elbow I screamed out with pain causing Wills arm around me to tighten,
