Chapter 23

After giving us the news, the doctor gave us his sympathy and walked out. We were told that we were allowed to go visit him now but the shock of the news kept me rooted to the spot.

I felt someone’s hand on my shoulder. Jumping slightly, I turned to see that Jayden’s parents had arrived. His dad was the one that had touched me “Elliot!” I cried and he pulled me into a hug

“He’s going to be okay darling” he said into my ear. From growing up with the Harrisons, Elliot and Stacey have always treated me like another daughter.

When I pulled back, I saw that Stacey was hugging her daughter on the other side of the room. Stacey turned so she was looking directly at me “We’re only allowed to go into Jayden’s room 2 at a time” she announced

“Well then Lacey should go first” Becky demanded

Elliot frowned “Why are you so adamant?” he questioned

“Well he’ll want to see his baby’s mamma first” she said certainly

Stacey’s eyes widened “Baby’s mamma?” she asked

Then I realised Becky’s mistake, we never told them about the baby. I smiled softly “You’re going to be grandparents again” I said while placing my hand over my stomach

Stacey’s mouth dropped open and then squealed “Oh I can’t wait!” she practically launched herself at me

I chuckled softly and hugged her back. I looked over at Becky who just rolled her eyes and smiled. “Go see Jayden Lace” she said

I nodded and opened the door. They said he was in room 243 I slowly made my way down the many corridors until I found the door a few metres in front of me.

With every step I took towards that room my heart beat went faster and faster. My palms became sweaty as all I can remember is Jayden laying flat on the cold floor of the hotel.

Taking a deep breath, I took hold of the door handle and pushed the door open. At first I looked everywhere but Jayden. I couldn’t help it. All I could see was white. White walls. White chairs.

Finally getting the courage, my eyes wandered to Jayden’s face. If you didn’t know his situation and with no tubes hanging out his mouth you would think that he was just sleeping. He looked so peaceful.

I grabbed one of the chairs and pulled it up to his bed. Sitting down, I grabbed his hand in the process. I studied every inch of his perfect face. His hair lay messy on the pillow with his eyelashes sitting delicately on his cheeks. The only thing I wasn’t used to was how pale he looked. He blended into the walls way too well. There was no sound in the room apart from the constant beep of Jayden’s heart beat.
