Chapter 13, Pursuit

Hailey's POV

The next several days were quiet regarding Hunter or father. Then  at breakfast, he brought up the subject of Hunter. I had sat down to have a light breakfast,

“Hailey, have you seen Hunter this week?” I had to chuckle at his question,

“I saw him Tuesday afternoon. Then he also showed up at Christopher’s,  with his girlfriend Courtney.”  Father frowned at the sound of these words,

“Because he came over to speak to us, I received a slap on my cheek by her in the ladies room.” Anna hearing the tail end of the conversation, pipes up.

“You must of done something to make her think you were flirting with him.” Now I started laughing, as I take a bite of a warm roll.

“What makes you think that? I ignored Hunter, only spoke with her only. Matt and Andrew mostly spoke with him. So that puts Hunter out of the picture. i'm happy to be with Matt.” Father sighs, as he continues to eat.

“I'll speak with Hunter today to really see what’s going on.” I shook my head, as I got up to leave.

“Whatever. i'm happy with Matt. i've tried to tell you that. Have a good day, i'm off to work.” I take off towards work, knowing the topic at moment was in my favor.

Carson's POV

I watch Hailey leave for work.  I turn towards Anna, with a smile.

“Darling, that was a good question for Hailey.” Anna gives me a coy smile,

“The only reason she would of gotten slapped, was doing something to make her feel threatened.” I had to agree, knowing that Hunter also had an eye on Hailey. I give Anna a nice kiss on her lips,

“I'll let you know when I find things out.”  I head out towards the office, when I arrive I tend to several meetings. When I come out, I saw Hunter speaking with Bella. I walk over to hear her tell Hunter,

“I'm sorry , Hunter but your father has court and several meetings outside the office. Is there an emergency?” Hunter smiles as he shakes his head,

“No Ms. Bella. I was just wanting to have lunch with him, no big deal.” I chucle, as I come up.

“Why don't you have lunch with me instead? I was going to call you, because  I need to discuss something with you.” Hunter nods with a smile,

“Yes, sir, I will.”  I turn to Bella,

“I ordered some food from the café down the street. There's enough food for all of us.. Should be here shortly.”

 Hunter follows me into my office, a short time later Bella comes in with the food. She had taken her meal, leaves ours on the small conference table . Hunter and I sit down at the table. We take a few minutes to dig into our warm food. After eating for a few minutes, I decided to bring up the topic  of him dating  Hailey.

“Hunter, I spoke with Hailey this morning. She told me she saw you with someone named Courtney on Tuesday evening. And that she was slapped by her. Do you know why?” Hunter lightly chuckles,

“Yes, i've dated Courtney off and on for the last several years as a casual relationship. She's a little possessive at times. She'll get over it.”  I nod, still feeling a little concerned.

“Does Hailey understand this? Call her this weekend and spend time with her.  She thinks you two are serious.” Hunter nods, with a small smile.

“I did call her that night, she was tired and we didn't  talk much. i'll call her to set a time to see her.” I sit back to study Hunter, needing to size him up.
