Cuts and Bruises
"Why do you care so much?" I fire back in the midst of my own overwhelming frustration. "You act like you're entitled to ask me these questions, to know these things about me. Why do you care? You don't even like me."
"I don't know why I care," Vincent replies honestly, his gaze boring into mine, so deep I'm almost certain he can see my soul. "But I see the way you put these walls up around yourself and I want to get in. I want to help."
My heart pounds heavily against my chest. "I don't need your help."
Something flashes in his eyes, an emotion so raw that he actually seems vulnerable for a mere moment, before he shakes his head slowly, the emotion fleeing as he does so. "Pretty soon, your walls will be unbreakable, and nobody will be able to get in. I know you're drowning all alone, Lily, and I want to save you."

She hears all the locker room talks. She helps when the guys drink too much before a game. She tapes them up when they're injured. And in return, they watch her back.
Lily Webb is not your average college girl. While most students spend their time partying, Lily spends her free time working and visiting the hospital. She is the assistant athletic trainer, and the only girl at PSU who is friends with every football player on the team.
Vincent Bradshaw is the best player on the team and most beloved treasure at Penn State. He's also entirely too cocky, reckless, and charming for Lily's taste. They don't see eye to eye, and when they aren't spouting insults at each other, they're doing everything in their power to avoid each other.
That is, until Vincent gets injured.
