We lay there, in the blood, our bodies clutched together. I could hardly feel the ice cold rain that hammered down on us. Warm liquid seeped through my shirt, mixing into the muddy water, and I closed my eyes, sleep beconing me.
And then, he began to hum. The deep sound vibrated through our bodies, distracting me from the numb feeling in my chest.
A laugh bubbled up my throat, the sound cutting through the dullness of the hammering tones of the rain. My eyes opened and I took in the bleak surroundings.
"Shh" he whispered, his warm breath tickling my ear. His presence soothed me, comforted me in a way no other could. "We're going to be fine, I'll make sure of it" he mumbled into my damp hair.
The cold was beginning to seep into my bones now, the comforting feeling of blank numbness retreating. In my head, I chased after it, pleading for it to stay and fill me with devoid nothingness.
But it left, and my eyes, of their own accord, slid shut.
