Florette, a painter's apprentice, is finally welcomed to the palace of Versailles. Ready to work, she notices that several of the courtiers are too beautiful to be human. Soon a battle-scarred warrior, Destan, tells her the truth: a faction of Fae have left the faerie and are slowly destroying the French monarchy. Determined that France must not fall, Florette is forced to use her skill to smuggle messages about the Fae inside her own paintings. Can she trust the rugged warrior at her side? And can Florette save France from creatures beyond mortal control?

Sixty orbits have passed since the faeries lost the Great War against the mortals and were pushed to the brink of extinction. Those that remain inhabit the Holókaustos, trapped by a curse, rotting away between this world and the next. That is, until a bastard halfling with something to prove concocts an escape plan involving a girl born of mortal blood and magic. ☆☆☆ A girl with a peculiar pedigree is dumped on a stranger's doorstep during the worst snowstorm the hamlet Myst has ever known. Selectively mute, she refuses to tell her hosts from whence she came and her name. For lack of knowing what else to do, the crotchety old woman and her grandson Mat grant her sanctuary and take to calling her Snow. But her very existence disrupts their daily lives. The mystery comes to a head when a dead man is discovered in the front yard after the first serious thaw. Strangers turned ragtag confidants, they dispose of the body. Orbits pass without incident, slackening their resolve to keep the girl their best-kept secret. When Mat introduces her to an old friend with his own dangerous secret, he threatens all they hold dear. The world's suddenly at their door, and it quickly becomes clear that Snow's meant for greater things. Book 2 May is a witch and a member of the Cursed, the police force of the supernatural world. She's spent her life juggling between her daytime job of running the library in the sleepy little town of Llanidloes, and her weekend mission of keeping law and order in her world and finding revenge against the Witch Hunters, a fanatical religious group hell bent on destroying her kind, who murdered her family when she was a child. Martin was rescued by Witch Hunters when he was a child, after watching his family being murdered by witches. He was raised in their harsh world and sent on a mission into the heart of Wales, right into May's path.
