Barely eighteen years old, Sancha left the island of Madalajes with a vow never to come back. Ironically, eight years after, she returned with her luggage in tow, a bruised cheek and a sleeve tattoo that screams: she was never, and will never be part of the boring and primitive town of El Viejo. Braving through the discriminating and prejudiced look of the people around her, she met a man in a military uniform and combat boots. A man who confessed to her in the middle of a quiet and empty parking lot. That time, she remembered asking him a question. The same question she threw in the middle of the burning forest and cacophony of blaring horns and people shouting in all direction. If given a chance to go back in time, will he choose the same answer to her question? Maybe? That's what Sancha thought. That's why she gave up on him and left again. Maybe she was selfish and coward to do so. Right, she was selfish... they both were. First published: May 2023
