After the war in Ba Sing Sai Aang was presumed dead Zuko came back to the Fire nation, they had captured Katara for being a "War criminal" so she was forced to work at the Palace or she would get sent to the prison for waterbenders and most likely killed. She complied and after a while she made her way up the rankings in the castles servants, Soon serving the royal family directly, more importantly, the prince of the fire nation, Zuko.
