Horror cause I like it. Sue me.
3:06 AM
The buzzing of a phone draws Dacre from his sleep. He turns the bedside lamp on, wincing as the light floods his room. He picks up his phone and furrows his brows as he sees who's calling him.
Y/N
Why would Y/N be calling him at 3 in the morning? Dacre accepts the call and presses his phone to his ear.
"N/Ns?" His voice sleep-slurred but his concern is more evident.
"Dacre, you've got to help me, there's something in my house." Y/N's voice is shaky on the other end of the line. Like she had just been crying.
"What?"
"In my house, there's something in there."
"What's in there?"
"Something, it just walked into my room."
"Like an animal?"
"No, I don't know what it was, but it wasn't an animal."
"Y/N, calm down, where are you?"
"I, I don't know."
"You don't know?"
"I just kept running, I don't know how far, I was so scared." The young woman's voice cracks at the end of her sentence and new tears swell up in her E/C eyes.
"Okay, just don't move, just help me figure out where you are, I'm going to come and get you," Dacre says, getting out of bed and moving to find his jacket. He changes into a pair of jeans and puts his shoes on before getting in his car.
About 20 minutes later Dacre pulls into the church parking lot. He looks around and doesn't see any sign of Millie so he decides to call her. The sound of a phone goes off in the distance. Dacre leans forward a little and focuses his hearing. The phone picks up and he can hear Y/N's tattered breathing on the other end.
"Y/N, it's me." He says, his tone is soft and comforting. A few seconds later Y/N creeps into his field of view from an entryway of the church. "I can see you. It's alright, you can come out."
The smaller woman hangs up and hurries over to the car and gets into the passenger side.
"Jesus Y/N."
She throws her arms around her boyfriend and sobs into his chest.
"It's okay, hey It's alright. Baby, what happened? You're shaking." Dacre asks, cupping her tear-stained face with one hand while the other rubs her shoulder. "Something scared you."
"Oh my god, it was awful."
"Are your parents home?"
"No, they're sorting out family business upstate and Ellie's (Your little sister(just a name)) having a sleepover at a friends house."
"Why didn't you call them?"
"You were the first person I thought of to call, I know it sounds stupid but I've always felt safer with you. Doesn't matter if we're romantically involved or not."
"Hey," Dacre coos, brushing her hair from her face and tucking it behind her ear. "It's not stupid Y/N, I'm glad I make you feel safe. But why didn't you call the police?"
"I, I didn't know if it would be in there if I even, I only saw it for a few seconds."
"Saw what?"
Y/N sighs, heavy and shaky. As if she doesn't know how to tell him of the horrors she's seen. Dacre strokes her cheek to coax her into talking. "Just start from the beginning."
"Phew, okay. I was lying in my bed. I was watching something on my phone, waiting for my sleeping pill to kick in, I could've sworn I heard some banging coming from my ensuite, so I paused what I was watching. I waited for a moment and when I didn't hear anything I just shrugged it off and went back to what I was watching.
Then when I started feeling sleepy the floor creaked, I looked up and saw a silhouette in front of the doorway. I thought I was seeing things so I turned my phone's flashlight on and there was this thing right in front of me, the light must of scared it because as I got up it retreated, I just threw the door open and ran. I felt like it was right behind me but I didn't look back. I just kept running. And, then I called you."
Dacre looks to the side as he processes what Y/N's told him. "What kind of sleeping pill?"
"It's prescriptions, some generic thing, I- I just started taking it yesterday, but this started before that."
"What did?"
"This feeling, like someone's looking at me. At night. This is why I couldn't sleep in the first place. I feel like, it's just been in there." Y/N tightens her grip on Dacre's blue t-shirt, the lines of salt on her cheeks have finally dried.
"Okay. Do you want to go take a look?"
"No, I don't want to go back there."
"Baby, if it's an animal it might've just run out. Anyway, do you want to leave your door open all night? Let's just drive up the driveway, and we'll see if we see anything."
Y/N reluctantly nods and slumps back into her seat as Dacre starts the car again and pulls out of the car park.
The gravel crunches under the tires as the pair drive up the driveway of the Brown household. Dacre kills the ignition and looks out the windshield. "I don't see anything."
He reaches over to Y/N's side and opens the glove box, reaching in to retrieve something.
"What's that?"
"Pepper-spray. Just in case."
"No Dacre, please don't go up there." She pleads, grasping Dacre's jacket sleeve to try and prevent him from leaving the car.
"N/N, baby, you said it yourself, you don't even know what you saw, maybe it's nothing."
"Can we please just come back in the morning? I don't want to be here."
"I'm just going to go take a look if I see anything I will come right back, I promise. Then we can go back to my place and call the police, okay?" He cups her cheek and presses their lips together for a few moments before pulling away and opening the door to get out.
"Dacre?" Y/N leans over and grabs his hand before he fully gets out of the car.
"Yeah?"
She's silent for a few seconds before saying. "I'd know if it was the pills."
"Stay in the car Princess." Dacre gives her hand a tight, reassuring squeeze before letting go and shutting the driver's side door.
He pulls a small flashlight from his pocket and clicks it on to see if it still works before clicking it off and cautiously walking up the stairs to the front door. Upon reaching the living room, the door opens with a creak. He clicks on his flashlight again to get his bearings before finding the floor lamp and turning it on.
He walks over to the window and sees that Y/N was still in the car. He looks over his shoulder and continues to search the house. Reaching Y/N's room he turns the light on and looks around. He jumps when he sees another figure but it turns out to only be his reflection in her mirror.
He huffs and shakes his head, regaining his composure. He freezes as he suddenly feels another presence in the room with him. He knows it's not Y/N because she's in the car. The hairs in the back of his neck stand up straight and his heart quickens with fear.
Y/N leans forward and looks up, her blood runs cold and her breath gets caught in her throat at what she sees. The silhouette of that thing that almost got her creeps across the window. It's following Dacre, planning to kill him like a tiger hunting its prey.
"Oh my god, Dacre!" She opens the door and scrambles out of the car. Running towards the stairs as fast as she can in hopes to get her boyfriend out of there before that thing gets to him first.
"Dacre! Dacre!"
Dacre perks up at the frantic sound of Y/N's voice, his instincts screaming at him to get out of there. He turns sharply at the sound of quick, heavy footsteps and before he can scream for Y/N the monster has its hand covering his mouth and its fingers dig into the skin of his neck and pulls.
Blood spurts from neck and a choked gasp tears from his chest. He falls to the floor lifeless as a ragdoll. Y/N enters the living room, eyes scanning her surroundings from the roof to the floor. Dacre is nowhere in sight. "Dacre?"
The sound of chewing from the other room catches the young woman's attention. The sight of that thing devouring Dacre makes Y/N's chest ache with sorrow and her throat burn. Her E/C eyes swell up with tears and her voice breaks as she says. "Dacre."
The monster perks up with a growl. Y/N's eyes widen in fear and she turns tail, running back down the stairs and to the car. She frantically gets into the driver's side and tries to start the car but it stalls. She keeps trying until the loud bang of a bucket hitting the pavement changes her focus. She tenses a little and grips the steering wheel. Out of the corner of her eye, the monster leans sideways, clamps it's teeth into Y/N's shoulder and pulls. Making an agonized scream claw its way out of the young woman's throat.
