Ava's POV:
"Ava! Are you coming?" I heard Eli.
"I'm coming!" I screamed.
Taking one more peek back, I didn't see anyone. "Is it my imagination?" I mumbled to myself before jogging away.
When I saw Trevon and Maeve, I pushed Eli down behind the haystack and leap beside him. "Ow! Rude!" Eli rubs his head while I heavily drill my eyes at Trevon.
I grab my phone and dial him. I watch as Trevon picks up his phone. "Hey, Av."
"Trevon. What are you doing right now?" Eli squat beside me and continued staring but didn't say anything.
"Oh. I'm hanging out with my friend." You mean, cheating whore!
My eyes hurried over to see Mary standing on the other side with Winnie and Ben. "Where are you at?"
Trevon looks up, "Ferris Wheel. I'm about to get on." It began loading people off.
"Oh! I'm nearby! We should get on the Ferris Wheel with everyone! I think I see Mary, Winnie, and Ben. Wait for us." I end the call.
Eli grabbed me by the shirt, "What are you doing?"
"What do you mean, what am I doing? I-" I stop talking when I realize being the only one who knows Maeve is the evil sister-in-law of my future drop in. From Eli's point of view, what I'm doing is stopping my brother from getting laid, that's all. "That girl isn't good enough for my brother."
"Why not? She's cute and way out of your brother league."
I rolled my eyes, "She's only cute on the outside. She got a crazy boyfriend." Eli furrows his brows, "That's what Trevon told me."
"It still doesn't explain why you're nosy."
I scoffed, "Nosy?"
"Yeah, you're kind of being a nosy sister right now."
"I'm not nosy. I care." I glare viciously at Eli, daring him to question me any further.
He places two hands up in the air, "Okay. Okay. Caring not nosy," he stated, and I nodded in approval before sneaking a peek at Trevon and Maeve. "But-" I groaned, "don't you think your brother is old enough to make his own decisions on who to hang out with and who not to be with?"
"That girl-"
"He didn't say anything when you choose to hang out with your old group."
I closed my mouth.
"Trevon is smarter than that. So, you should trust him."
"But, what if something bad happens?" I asked, feeling the curious looks from the people passing by us.
"Then, you should trust him to come to you when something does happen," Eli said, and I frown even further. His reasoning does make sense; after all, nothing had happened between them yet. There is also the fact that I'm trying to mend our sibship again, and if he finds out his sister is stalking him. Then, everything will surely go downhill.
Eli grasps my hand, causing my body to jolt slightly. "How about playing some booth games with me?" I sigh, "We can play nearby so we can continue stalking your brother just in case something happens," he suggested, and I smile. That is a good idea; after all, it won't look like I'm stalking him.
"Okay," I said, and instantly Eli pulls me up and drags me towards the gaming booth. It was a shooting game.
Eli slams down the five-dollar bill while I continued stalking them. Earlier, Trevon message me when I'll come, and with Eli hovering over my shoulder, I was forced to tell him to go on without me.
I watch as Trevon inch closer to the Ferris wheel with Maeve. They were laughing about something. Now, the laughter died down. Then, they laughed again. Then, it died. Now, the-
"Are you going to stand there and continued stalking your brother, or are you finally going to clap because I knock all the cans down?"
Steadily, I began clapping, but my eyes were still on Trevon and Maeve.
"Av-"
I pat Eli's shoulder, "Good boy. Keep going. I want that." I point at a random item behind the counter.
"Are you sure?"
"Yeah. Yeah. That looks cute."
My eyes narrowed as they stepped into the Ferris wheel and began moving upward. They laughed. Again.
Two more shots rang in my ear, and the bell ding. Immediately, I whip around when the booth guy shouts: "Three in a row! Three in a row! What do you want, fella?"
"I want that." Eli pointed at the extremely ugly pink fish thingy.
"Why would you want that?" I asked.
The booth guy handed him that whatever it is. "You're the one who wanted it." He shoves the animal at me, and I almost yelp in fear of the horrendous item, "It's a blobfish, by the way."
I analyze the awful creature called blobfish, with its horrible giant nose and surgery gone wrong lip. I place it beside Eli's head, "It looks like you."
"Kissable?" He puckered his lip.
"Ugly," I smiled.
He frowns and grabs the blobfish from my hand. "I'm keeping it because I won it." He pointed a thumb at his chest. Eli huffs a breath. "Ugly?" He places it in the air, "It beautiful... I'm beautiful."
I nodded slowly, "Disputable."
We began walking to the next booth with the corner of my eyes still on the Ferris wheel. I'm grateful for my gift of a perfect 20/20 vision. Before I knew what was going on, Eli threw an arm over my shoulder and pinned me on lockdown. "What are you doing?" I asked as he dragged my body forward.
"Let's go to the haunted house!" he chirped. I guess even you like haunted house better than the stupid haunted hallway.
"But I need to-"
He pays for our tickets and drags me into the house. The house wasn't scary at all, filled with fake monsters and overly cringy items. A monster with what seems to be dildos sticking out of him flapping in the air leaps out and screamed at us, causing Eli to jump behind me. "Why did I go in here?" his voice pitched slightly as he grabbed onto the back my shirt.
I smiled, "Hi, Daniel."
Daniel returns my smile and waves slightly, "Sup Makee." There were more footsteps behind me. "I got to do my job. I'll see you around." He put his scare face on and creep behind us, causing another round of screams.
Eli clutched onto the ugly stuff animal and continued hiding behind me until we reached the end. "Hey, we're outside. You can let go," I said.
Eli peeks around and smiles, wiping off the sweats on his forehead. "That wasn't so bad. I don't understand why you had to hide in front of me the whole time."
At that moment, I couldn't help but burst out laughing. Throwing my head back and my hands over my face, I stumble back slightly, "You're so stupid."
"Come on! I want to go on the bumper cars!" He whined and dragged my hand towards the line. I load myself into a white car while Eli leaps into the black one. The music resume, and the click-clacking noise began. First, he would chase me. Then, I would get my revenge.
"You think you can do that! Not today!" he screamed, rushing towards me, but he hit a little boy instead.
The boy glare menacingly at him, "Get him!" He shouted, and a race of four other boys rush after Eli.
"Help! Help! Help!" he screamed, wheeling away from them.
Today, I smiled and laughed so hard that I completely forgot about my mission. And as I bit the other end of the hot dog with Eli, I forgot about the families and friends around us. When he threw his arm over my shoulder, I forgot about our neighbors and classmates' curious eyes. When he chased after me with a live fish he caught, I forgot about the whispers. When he leaned inward, whispering jokes into my ears, I forgot about the guy I was hopelessly chasing.
