Happy Birthday, Dark

Happy Birthday, Dark

*A/N: As you know, y/n is your/name, and y/f/____ is your/favorite/_____. In this you can imagine that you're a friend of Dark's or more than that, if you'd like - I kept it pretty casual. Hope you enjoy!

Dark didn't really care too much about birthdays or holidays. They were just another day to him. He really only showed interest if someone he cared about was really excited about them. And since he wasn't exactly human and he was a bit of a rare case, he had never celebrated his birthday before - or rather, the day he became...well, Dark, the fusion of two people. He didn't believe in celebrating it, but birthdays were incredibly important to humans, and you thought he deserved a nice day all about him. That's why you were surprising him for his special day and throwing him his first real "birthday" party.

You knew Dark wouldn't want some huge party with a ton of people - that wasn't his style. So instead, you were just inviting a few people he was close to. There would be chill music, drinks, his favorite foods, and that was about it. Really low key.

You waited until Dark was out of his house, then snuck in and began the decorating. It wasn't much - just a few balloons and streamers and a banner that said 'Happy Birthday'. You got matching plates, napkins, cups, and straws, and that was that. You began preparing the food and before you knew it, Dark was back.

"What's all this?" he questioned you when he walked in, taking in all of the new decor.

"It's your birthday! I thought we should celebrate," you reminded him.

"I don't have a birthday, y/n. I wasn't born, I just...came to be," he replied.

"I know, but why not celebrate the day you became who you are? That's a big deal! I know you said you're not into birthdays, but you've never had one, and you don't know whether you like something or not until you've tried it. It's not going to be anything crazy, I promise. Only your close friends are coming," you assured him.

"Just a few people?"

"Yes. Nobody you absolutely despise. Wil, Google, Bing, Eric, King, the Jims. And we're going to have a variety of different pastas, your favorite. I also made sure you were stocked up on the best red wine and there are several chocolatey desserts, including an amazing-looking cake." You showed Dark around the house so he could see the set up, and he almost seemed overwhelmed.

"Wow, y/n. You really went all out. This is amazing! You didn't have to do all of this for me," he told you.

"I know, but I wanted to. And there is also one more thing."

Dark furrowed his brows in confusion and you pulled out a present that you were hiding behind a bunch of stuff in the hall closet.

"Y/n..." Dark began, but you interrupted him before he could finish his sentence.

"I know I didn't have to, but I wanted to. Just open it," you insisted. He pulled off the velvet bow and tore at the wrapping paper. He opened the box to reveal a brand new black suit. His jaw dropped as he unfolded it and checked it out.

"It's custom, look - the threads inside are red and blue, and your name is embroidered in it. I gave them your measurements, so it should fit you perfectly. Plus, I just wrapped it so it shouldn't be wrinkled."

"This is incredible. I absolutely love it. Thank you, y/n." Dark wasn't usually a big hugger, but he opened his arms to you and you graciously embraced him.

"You're welcome, Dark. Happy birthday! You should go get changed - I was kind of hoping you'd wear your new suit for your party," you suggested.

"Alright, I'll go try it on."

You checked on the food that was in the oven and began setting out some of the cold things - guests would be arriving soon. By the time you were finished and you came back out to the entryway, Dark was descending the stairs in his new suit. He looked extremely handsome in it, as always, and the fit was just right. He didn't normally smile much, but there was a big grin on his face as he made his way down the staircase. You could tell he felt great.

"How do I look?" he asked, smoothing down the jacket.

"Devilishly handsome," you laughed. Before he could reply, the doorbell rang.

It seemed as if the entire guest list had arrived at the same time. When Dark pulled the front door open, the two of you were greeted by Wilford Warfstache, who immediately gave Dark a big squeeze and then forced a party hat onto his head while loudly slurring, "Happy birthday Darky!" He was followed by the Jims, who had brought cameras and other filming equipment - you weren't sure if they ever went anywhere without it. After them was Google, who gave a quick hello, and Bing, with his skateboard in hand. The King of the Squirrels was preoccupied with a couple of squirrels in the front yard, which he was talking to, and Eric timidly came in last, tightly clutching his favorite little towel in both hands. The previously quiet house became loud very quickly, mostly because of Wilford, who clearly brought the party with him.

"So much for low key," you mumbled apologetically to Dark. But apart from the party hat he was now being forced to wear, he didn't seem to mind all that much.

You poured wine and other drinks for the party guests and everyone helped themselves to different pastas. You set it up like a make your own pasta bar and each person could choose their pasta shape, sauce, and meat/seafood if they so desired. There was a four cheese sauce, a regular marinara sauce, creamy alfredo, and pesto as well as shrimp and chicken to add in. There were breadsticks, too, of course, and a salad.

The dinner table was a hilarious sight. There were so many different beings sitting there. There was Dark, his aura consisting of mainly blue as he happily ate his favorite entree and sipped on what was the best drink in his book. Then there was Google, with just a glass of water and no food - you never knew him as much of an eater. He was pretty much a robot, after all, just sitting and listening for commands. Bing was just drinking pop and stuffing his face with mostly breadsticks and sprinkling things like, "totally" and "rad" into conversations. The King had come inside and joined everyone at the dinner table, but instead of eating or drinking, he was scooping peanut butter out of a jar and smearing it on his face. Both Jims were drinking wine and having salads and bread, saying, "Back to you, Jim," after almost everything they said to each other. Eric had a small amount of food on his plate and was anxiously playing with his towel still, stuttering whenever he spoke. Wilford had some pink drink with a flowery umbrella sticking out of it (you weren't sure what was in it, he was drinkless one minute and had it the next before you could offer him anything). He was sipping it often and instead of having the main course, he had already gotten into the sweets. He had one of every dessert on his plate, minus the cake that had yet to be cut and served: chocolate pudding, cheesecake, chocolate candies, black licorice, chocolate ice cream, and cookies. And lastly, there was you, with a plate full of y/f/pasta with y/f/sauce, breadsticks, and some salad with y/f/dressing. You were drinking y/f/drink and watching the shenanigans unfold, just glad to see a smile on Dark's face.

After dinner, everyone headed over to the game room. Dark chatted with Wilford, who insisted on taking tons of ridiculous selfies with him wearing party hats and sashes and all of the other random props Wil seemed to pull out of nowhere. The King was back outside with the squirrels presumably, Google and Bing were arguing over darts, the Jims were playing pool, and Eric was hanging back with you, not sure what to do with himself. After a game or two of darts and pool and more drinks, everyone went back to the kitchen to sing to Dark and have some dessert. You put a single candle on the top of Dark's sinful devil's food cake that was decorated with pitch black icing.

"Do we really have to do the singing? I don't know what to do with myself," Dark grumbled, crossing his arms.

"Yes, it's part of the experience! And for the record, nobody knows what to do with themselves when they're being sung to on their birthday," you promised. You lit the candle and counted down from 3, and everyone started singing. Wilford was the most enthusiastic and loud, as drunk as he sounded, while Eric smiled awkwardly at Dark as if to try to comfort him in the uncomfortable moment. The Jims were doing everything they could to get a good shot of Dark during the song.

When the singing was over, Dark looked at you as if to ask what was supposed to happen next.

"Make a wish and blow out your candle, but don't tell the wish to anyone, or it won't come true. Or at least, that's what I was always told," you said. Dark thought for a moment, then blew the flame out. Everyone clapped and Wil gave Dark another big hug.

Cake and ice cream were served to everyone along with the other yummy sweets and desserts, and somehow Wilford managed to fill his plate up with at least one of everything again. Everyone ate, talked, and relaxed for a little while before heading home, full of food and ready for sleep.

"I'm sure it wasn't exactly what you had in mind, but did you have a good birthday?" you wondered.

"Yes, it was a nice first celebration of my existence," Dark smiled. You weren't sure if you had ever seen him smile as much as he did that day, and that made you feel incredibly accomplished and satisfied.
