I Didn't Know I Loved Him (Until He Showed Me)
CHAPTER 5 : Breakfast and Games
"Breakfast in bed for the lady," someone said as the door opened. I shot up from the bed and my head didn't spin so I guess I was okay now. There was a few chuckles before someone said, "Breakfast in bed for you Hayley." I recognized it as Ethan.
"Oh," I mumbled and felt my cheeks burn up.
Ethan fixed my pillows so I could lean on them and Elliot place a tray of food in my lap. I eyed it and I could've sworn I was drooling. I never had breakfast 'cause my mom never cooked or bought anything and I never learned to cook anything. The only thing I could really make for myself was cereal and I never bothered with buying any. There was a mix of pancakes and waffles, eggs, bacon, French toast, orange juice, milk and my personal favorite, water on the tray. I blinked, not believing this was real.
"Try something," Elliot said to me as he sat beside me on the other side of Ethan's bed.
"We fixed it all for you," Ethan added as he leaned against the bed post.
"Thanks you guys! You didn't have to to this for me," I told them and looked back at the tray.
"Oh but we did," Elliot replied and nudged my shoulder. I giggled and grinned at him. I grinned at Ethan too and he just smiled back sadly. What was his problem? I looked back at the tray and grinned.
"Which one should I try first?" I asked to myself but Elli answered.
"Waffles! I made that!" he squealed like a little girl. I laughed so hard that the tray almost fell off my lap. If Ethan hadn't grab it, it would've been a real waste of food.
"Okay then," I said and took a bite of it. I died and went to heaven. I moaned at how delicious it was. There were no words that could describe it.
"Holy crap! Did you guys like, finally learn to cook while I was asleep?!" I screamed and took another mouthful of the waffle. The guys laughed loudly. Ethan sat at my feet and leaned against the bed post. There was a knock at the door right when I was gonna take a bite out of my pancakes.
"I'm going now. Just wanted to drop-in and say 'bye'. I also wanted to see how Hayley's doing," Anna said as she walked over to us. "I see you're liking your breakfast. What do you think of my cooking?" My jaw dropped and I looked up at her.
"You made all this?" I asked. The boys started coughing.
"Who else?" she said and looked at me confused.
"The guys said they made this," grumbled and pouted.
"Well, they must be very good liars for you to believe them," she chuckled in reply. "I have to go now. Bye, guys!" She kissed each one of us on the forehead and left.
As soon as I heard the door click, I screamed, "I hate you guys!" I threw half of my pancake to Elli and the other one to Eth.
"Food shouldn't go to waste," Eth said and stuffed it in his mouth. I was about to say something to Elli but when I turned to him he also had the pancake stuffed in his mouth.
"I can't finish this all! I'm gonna puke!" I screamed after I tried to drink the last glass of tea and pushed the tray off my lap. Elli chuckled and then took the tray so he could put it on the table.
"So, how're you feeling?" Ethan asked me with a concerned voice.
"Better," I sighed, "but I think this feeling is gonna go away as soon as I get home."
"Dammit, Hayley. You need to report her," Elliot said and I could tell he was trying to hold him self back.
"I will but not right now, not when I need her," I whispered and fell back into the pillows.
"What time is it?" I asked.
"10:32," Ethan answered and my eyes widened.
"School!" I screamed and scrambled off the bed, taking the sheets down with me.
"Whoa! Hayles! Don't worry, we don't have to come in today. Mom called and the school," Ethan said and pulled me onto my feet.
"No! You don't get it, my mom'll kill me for skipping a day of school!" I screamed and started looking for my clothes from yesterday. I found them in a pile of Ethan's clothes and started stripping. The guys and I have known each other for a really long time and being half-naked in front of each other wasn't really a big deal. I heard Elliot groan and a long stream of curse words came from Ethan.
"If you let us report her then..." he started saying angrily but when he saw the pleading look on my face, he walked over to me and engulfed me in a tight hug. I inhaled his familiar smell and hugged him back. "
Sorry," he whispered and kissed my forehead.
"We'll take care of it for you," Elli said and came up to us. He ruffled my hair and grinned.
After taking a long, warm shower, I dressed in only a really big t-shirt that was Ethan's and a pair of old shorts that I left here. We were sitting in the living room, watching a movie on their plasma tv. The thing about Ethan's family was that they were stinking rich. They probably had more than a million dollars in their bank accounts but they never used the money for unnecessary things like people think rich people do. (No offense to those who do.) They always used their money for good things like charity and things like that. Sometimes they used the money to buy things they actually want and need but they don't do that too much. They could've bought a big mansion somewhere else but they chose a not-so-normal home in a too-normal city. Their house was 2 floors and had an attic. It was what you could call a normal house if you didn't count the expensive stuff like the plasma tv's, game consoles, modern paintings, and decorations.
"Hey, Ethan," I said and looked at him. He was sitting beside me with my legs up on his lap.
"Yeah?" he said and turned his attention from the tv to me.
"Do you know Leah's number?" I asked. As soon as the question was out, confusion came on his face.
"Leah?"
"Forget it," I said and threw myself off the couch. I grabbed one of Ethan's jackets from the coat rack and grabbed my phone from the coffee table.
"Where you going?" Elli asked and stood up.
"Going to a friend's house. I'm supposed to be babysitting," I said and was about to leave when Ethan grabbed my arm.
"Let me drive you," he said and started reaching for his keys that were with Elli.
"No, it's okay. I'm just gonna walk," I told him and was about to leave again when Elliot, this time, grabbed my arm.
"Are you kidding me? No way in hell am I letting you walk alone while you have a minor concussion," he almost screamed and I sighed.
"Guys, I'm perfectly fine. I promise to call you if something happens or if I need to be picked up," I said and shook off Elli's arm.
"Plus," I added, "the apartment is really near here, like maybe on the next street." I knew that because I went to her house once 'cause we were lab partners and had this really big project to do.
"Hayley, no! We're not letting you walk alone out there while your vulnerable," Ethan said and I groaned.
I looked down as if in defeat and said, "Fine! I'm not going anymore!" The guys sighed with relief and sat back down on the ground. When they were both seated back on the sofa, I quietly but quickly opened the door and started running to Leah's house.
"HAYLEY!" they both screamed but I just kept running faster.
When I was in front of the apartment building, I bent over and put my hands on my knees, panting and gasping for air. My lungs were burning and I felt hot all over. Running here was a bad idea. It was farther then I thought it was and it was already starting to get cold. I wrapped Ethan's jacket around my body tighter and sighed. I walked into the building and went in the elevator. I went up to her floor and got out. I walked to their door and knocked on it 3 times. It was only lunch time and Leah wouldn't be home yet so there probably was another babysitter. A girl who looked about 20 or so answered the door and looked at me with a shocked expression. "
Leah didn't say that she was expecting anyone," she said and tilted her head as if trying to figure out what I was doing here.
"Oh! I'm babysitting later but I thought I'd come earlier," I said and smiled. She let out a big breath of air and clutched her chest.
"Thank God! My boyfriend just called and said he wanted to go on a lunch date!" she almost screamed and then after squealed.
I laughed and then said, "Well, I'm here to relieve you."
She grinned and hugged me. I was taken aback by this and didn't know what to do so I just patted her back awkwardly.
"Come in!" she said as she pulled away. She ran inside and started rushing about the room. I looked around and saw that nothing has changed since I was last here. The apartment wasn't that small and not too big, just the right size. There was one bedroom, a bathroom, a kitchen and small dining area and a living room. Thankfully, the heater was on and it wasn't too cold. I took Ethan's jacket off and dropped it onto the sofa along with my phone.
"Where's my favorite little girl?" I said loudly so it could be heard from anywhere in the apartment.
Instantly, a little, blonde-headed girl came running out from the bedroom while screaming. I opened my arms out for her and she jumped into them without hesitation. I laughed and twirled us in circles. She was giggling and squealing the whole time. Amy's two years old, almost the big three. She had blonde hair like Leah but had brown eyes like her dad. She was in a white tank top that seemed to be way too big for her so I assumed that it was Leah's and under that, she had her own tank top that was similar to Leah's and some shorts.
"How've you been? I missed you," I screamed and tickled her sides. She laughed uncontrollably and I loved the sound. It made me smile whenever I heard it.
"Fine, mommy go school and I stay wif Lala!" she squealed and I grinned.
"Oh, by the way, my name's Tala," the girl from before came up from behind me and extended her hand.
"My name's Hayley," I told her and shook her hand.
"That's a beautiful name and I'd like to stay and chat but I have to get going!" she said. We said our goodbyes and she left. I turned back to Amy who was sitting down in front of me, looking adorable.
"What do you want to do today?" I asked and sat down in front of her. "
Hide go seek!" she screamed and started jumping up and down.
"Okay, I seek and you hide."
Even though she was only two and she couldn't really speak properly, she was pretty intelligent. "We played hide and seek for a few minutes then we played a lot of other games. At around 3, she finally got tired and plopped herself on the couch. Even I was feeling exhausted. I started picking up toys that were on the floor, shirts and rubbish. When I finished, the apartment was much cleaner from when I came in. I sat down on the couch next to Amy and found out that she had fallen asleep. I smiled and picked up her sleeping form. I walked into the bedroom and was surprised to find it clean. I lay her down on the bed and went back into the living room to get my phone. When I was back in the bedroom, I laid down next to her and pulled the blanket over us both since it was starting to get cold. I unlocked my phone and found out that I had 5 missed calls and 2 text messages; 3 calls from Ethan, 2 from Elliot, 1 text message from each of them. I decided too just reply back to them later and turned my phone off. I watched Amy sleep and before I knew it, I fell asleep too.
