Eva

  Do it!

Do it!

“Please, stop.” I screamed, repeatedly hitting my head against the concrete wall, hoping the whispers would stop, “Please.. “

Do it!

Do it, they say,

You’re a murderer, they whisper in my ear,

“Stop!” I kept hitting my head, but they wouldn’t,

They wouldn’t stop,

“Please...stop.” I screeched,

Do it!

“Stop..” I screamed and kept hitting and hitting until my neck became weak and everything went black,

Hours went by and a vicious shake woke me, I jolted awake sweating and breathing heavy,

“It’s okay?” A voice whispered to me and I looked up to see the worried eyes of officer Jones, “Child, if you keep this up, you will end up in the mental ward..”

Holding to my aching head, I sat up straight,

“How long have I been out?”

“A whole four hours this time..” She reached to the table and grabbed a cup, “Here have some water.” She hands me the stainless cup, and I accepted it.

“Thank you.” I whispered, bringing the brim to my lips. She says nothing and stares pitifully at me before gathering herself up,

“You have a visitor?”

I handed the cup back to her, before responding, “I don’t want to see her again, she’s evil.”

“I knew there was something wrong about her.” she muttered to herself, pulling out the silver handcuffs, “It’s your lawyer.” She clarifies,

“Your hand?” she ordered, and I extended them to her,

She cuffed my hands and lead me into the visitation room,

I enter the visitation room where inmates and family members were sitting across from each other at long tables. I took my seat and slowly raised my eyes to the lawyer, watching him from across the table. Mr. Jameson is the lawyer in charge of my case.

Officer Jones unlocks one side of the cuff and locked it to the edge of the chair, “You have five minutes.” she said and left,

“Hello, Eva.” Mr. Jameson smiled at me and I returned a faint one, “How are you?” he asked and I threw him a glare, having him quickly apologising and going straight to the point, “This case has proven very difficult and it’s been a year already.”

“What are you trying to say?”

“It’s time we consider other options, a plea bargain.”

“You are saying I don’t have a chance?” Not only was he lazy but incompetent.

“We need to be more rational, If you plead guilty in court, chances are you would get 3-4years, which is more lenient than spending the rest of your life in Jail.” He explained, but that was the least of my concerns,

“What about my brother, have you heard from him? Have you found him?”

“Yes.” he answered and pulled out a file from his briefcase, “I filed a few missing reports and it turns out he’s in a juvenile detention.”

“What! how? you were supposed to be looking out him?” I screamed, causing people to turn heads us,

“Calm down, Eva.”

“Don’t tell me to calm down, tell me what the hell happened, how’s my brother in Jail when you were supposed to be looking out for him?” I barked, knocking my fist against the Iron table,

“Calm down, Eva.” He uttered, shaken. Officers rushed to our table, “Everything is fine.” he tried to appease them. They unlocked the cuff and tackled me from behind, dragging me out of the room, I kept my eyes on him the whole time, my body fuming in anger. I should have never trusted him to take care of Nate.
He couldn’t even get me out of jail.

They dragged me to a solitary confinement, where the misbehaving prisoners were left in, and pushed me inside. “You would stay here until you learn to control that temper of yours.” The officer spat, shutting the metal door.

I curled tightly to the corner, this wasn’t my first in here, the room was like a box for humans, asides the dim light seeping through the cracks, there wasn’t anything else in the room except a flat thin mattress and a bucket, the doors were really thick, I didn’t bother fighting through them, because I knew I wouldn’t break through it.

Eva!

It started again, I placed my head in between my legs and began singing soft blue melodies,

Normally, I would fight the instinct to scream at my own mind, but singing over the years had become the only way I could appease them.
