First Person POV:
The sounds of squabbling and shuffling echo down the empty hallway I'm sitting in. I look up from my book Defence Against the Dark Arts. There's nobody there. I return to my book, flipping to the next page and I watch as the drawing of a grindylow snaps its jaws at me.
"Get back here!" I hear a furious Professor Moody shout, hearing his prosthetic limb clunk against the floor. I stand up and peer around the corner just be knocked to the ground by a blur of dark uniform clothes and platinum blonde hair rushing around the corner.
"Ow! Draco! Watch where you're going!" I exclaim at my boyfriend as he helps me up, pulling me into his arms. I look up at him. His hair is messy and has patches of leaves and some mud in it. He has some scratches on his cheeks. I've never seen him so unkempt.
"Thank god it's you!" he sighs, nearly crushing me in his arms.
"Draco, what happened t-"
"There's no time to talk, y/n. Come with me!" he declares, grabbing my hand roughly and pulling me along as he sprints down the hall into one of Filch's abandoned broom cupboards. He closes the door behind us and holds a finger up to his lips, telling me to be quiet. I nod as I hear the professor hobbling along on his leg outside the door.
"You coward!" I hear Moody yell at the top of his lungs. "I know you're around here, boy! When I see you next, I'll be sure to turn you into a-"
"Professor Moody! Stop that this instant!" McGonagall says, coming into the hallway. "We never use Transfiguration as a punishment! You shall see Professor Snape about what disciplinary practices should be employed on Mr Malfoy if you see that we should take more drastic measures than detention."
We hear professor Moody grumble and limp away with McGonagall in search of Snape. Draco presses his ear against the door. There's nothing but silence and he sighs with relief, standing up straight again.
"What was that about?" I ask Draco, folding my arms in front of my chest. Draco frowns defensively and says nothing. "Come on, Draco. Why does the professor want you in trouble with Snape? What did you do?"
"It was nothing," Draco murmurs.
"Moody seemed pretty angry," I say back. He's not fooling me. "I know something's up, Draco. I can see it in your eyes. You can tell me, Draco. I'm your girlfriend."
"But it's embarrassing, y/n...," he mutters under his breath. I walk over and take his hands.
"Come on, let's go do something. If it's bothering you so much you won't talk to me about it, we should do something to take your mind off of it. You can tell me later. We have no classes this afternoon," I smile.
"What would we do? We can't be here, Moody'll track me down in an instant," Draco sighs.
"Let's go to Hogsmeade," I suggest after a moment of thought. He smirks.
"Well, well. We do have a rebel in our hands, don't we?" he jokes. "You never break the rules. It's a Thursday. We're only allowed in Hogsmeade on designated weekends."
"Since when have you memorised the student handbook, Draco?" I laugh. "You don't give a damn about the rules."
"And since when have you been so lax with the rules, y/n?" Draco replies with his signature Malfoy smirk. "Last time I checked, you loved following the rules so much you made sure we left fifteen minutes early from the library so we'd get back to the common room seven minutes before curfew."
"Who cares about that?" I scoff. "Now, come on. Do you want to have some fun with me or not? Would you rather just sulk in your own misery about whatever happened?" He shakes his head and smiles down at me, kissing me on the forehead. I smile at him and say, "Let's get you cleaned up."
Grabbing Draco's hand, I lead him out of the broom closet and to Moaning Myrtle's bathroom to be sure we won't run into Moody. I run some water and get him cleaned up, washing the dirt and leaves out of his hair. As I take a warm rag and clean the grit off his face, he smiles.
"Thanks for being so good to me, y/n," he sighs. "I don't deserve you."
"Don't mention it, Draco. It's not a problem," I reply. "Let's go."
Together, Draco and I rush down the halls together trying unsuccessfully not to get noticed by anyone, earning some strange looks from a group of studying Ravenclaws and the Weasley twins who are throwing a couple of fanged frisbees at Crabbe and Goyle. Draco laughs at his goons as they trip over themselves, shouting "idiots!" at them before they could see who it was.
Finally arriving in Hogsmeade, nearly out of breath, Draco pulls me into his arms and we walk into the Three Broomsticks, taking in the woody, smoky aroma of the room. We go in together and order some drinks. Sitting down in our favourite booth in the corner of the Inn, we talk and laugh together and I can see Draco's discomfort from what happened to him fade away. I blush as he kisses me on the cheeks and holds my hands. We sit there for what seems like hours. Sitting across from me, Draco smiles at me before he takes a sip of his Gillywater.
"He turned me into a ferret," Draco says out of the blue.
"What?" I say, setting down my butterbeer.
"Moody. He turned me into a ferret." Draco sighs, avoiding eye contact and burying his face in his hands.
"You're serious?" I gasp. and he nods, still not looking up.
"Yes. He shoved me in Crabbe's pants after. In front of everyone... It was humiliating, y/n...," he admits shakily. I get up and go sit by him on his side of the booth.
"I had no idea, Draco... I'm so sorry...," I say softly, pulling Draco into my arms. He rests his head on my shoulder and I feel a tear slip from his eyes.
"My reputation is ruined," he groans. "I can't be respected anymore. All the first years will gang up on me because I'm Draco Malfoy, The Ferret Boy. Nobody'll let me live it down."
"I'm sure everyone will forget about it. The next task is coming up and a lot will happen between now and then, too. People will forget all about this. People have other things to be concerned about," I assure him. "Don't worry about the first years. They don't have the guts to toy with anyone in our year."
"My friends will never let me forget it," he sniffles, shaking his head.
"If they ever bring it up, know I'll give 'em hell," I smile and he laughs in return. "Nobody gets to mistreat you on my watch. You know that."
"I love it when you get fired up like that," he grins, taking my hands in his. I rest my head on his shoulder and close my eyes. "I love you," he whispers.
"Love you, too, Draco," I mumble back. "I don't care that you were turned into a ferret. The people who really matter don't care what embarrassing things happen to you. Your real friends will always be there for you, just know that, okay?"
"Thanks, y/n. I know I can always count on you," he says softly into my ear as we snuggle closer.
"Ready to go back to Hogwarts?" I ask after a few seconds.
"No. I want to stay here forever with you," he says, taking my waist and enveloping me in his arms.
"Alright. We can stay a little longer," I agree.
Draco pulls me into his chest tighter and waves over Madame Rosmerta to order another set of drinks. We sit there together, laughing and smiling until a blanket of reds and oranges floods the sky. As dusk turns into night, we talk with each other all the way back to Hogwarts.
Stepping lightly, we try to keep quiet as we shush down the staircases, attempting to make it to the common room without coming face to face with an angry prefect doing their rounds. The bell in the clock tower rings, telling us were out past curfew. We reach the blank stretch of wall and Draco blurts out the password and we rush in. I flop over on the couch in relief that we didn't get caught. Draco walks over and gives me a hug and a kiss goodnight and waves goodbye as I walk into the hallway to the girls' dorms.
"Where were you all day, y/n?" Milicent asks as I walk in and kick off my shoes to the side.
"Out," I reply with a small smirk.
"You were with Draco," Pansy spits, jealously ringing in her voice.
"I was," I reply simply, trying to hide my satisfaction from her. She stops off to the bathroom to wash up, fuming.
"Lucky girl," Milicent says teasingly as we both crawl under the emerald sheets of our beds. The water sloshes up against the windows and walls of our dormitory and I drift off to sleep, thinking about what Draco and I will do next time we decide to break the rules.
