Peter slowly backs away from the snapping turtle, not wanting to anger it. It attacks again, however, because it is so disoriented and confused and angry. The turtle clamps its jaw down on Peter's other leg, and Peter screams again. He cusses. Peter submerges the turtle yet again, this time, runs away when it releases its grip on his leg. Since turtles are slow, he gets away easily.
Peter grabs the two fish he'd caught before being attacked and goes to his camp. Upon arriving, he starts the fire again and nurses his wounds. The skin is ripped slightly, but he is mostly just becoming very badly bruised. He washes his bite marks with his clean water and sits. He roasts a fish and eats it. Traumatized and very sore, he decides to stay in his camp the rest of the day, living off the two fish he caught. The fire on the hilltop should be big enough to burn until he tends to it in the morning. At night, Peter rests his eyes after what has been a very painful day and sleeps.
