Third Person POV:
"Trying to get out again are we, Miss y/l/n?" Dumbledore sighs. "You realise that's nearly impossible. Death has already created many obstacles in the path of those who wish to escape. Then again, your only hope is to get through these impediments if you wish to get to your husband and son and be with them once again. Are you sure you are ready to leave the safety of the afterlife and go to the bridge between life and Death?"
"Yes, Professor," y/n sighs, packing a bag of clothes and tools. "I cannot stay here any longer. That visit with Draco and Scorpius made me realise how much I want to be back and really how much I missed them. In the past, while I was dead, I knew I missed them but I didn't know to what extent. Now I do. I need to go back and see them. I'm incomplete here."
"You've survived twelve years without them in the afterlife, Miss y/l/n...," he says. "Do you not think you can last longer?"
"Wizards live to an average of one hundred and twenty-five years, Professor! You lived much, much longer. What if Draco does? What if Scorpius does? At this rate, it'll be over eighty years before I see Draco and even longer before I see Scorpius! I can't have that! It would be too painful...," she explains. "I want to be with them. I want to have my family back. I want to be there for Scorpius. I want to be there to talk with him and be with him at the important moments. I want to see when he graduates, gets his first job, and when he gets married. I realise the danger. If I die again in this quest, my soul is condemned to suffer for eternity for defying Death himself... but I think it's worth a shot, Professor. If I can see the rest of my family again and walk the earth, that would be an absolute miracle. I'm not looking for fame and greatness. I'm not searching for wealth or power. I just want to see my family."
She stands up and swings the satchel over her shoulder.
"I'll be off now," she sighs.
"Good luck, Miss y/l/n. How you value your family is truly admirable. Safe travels to you," Dumbledore says calmly with a wave. "Well. We'll meet again someday I trust."
"You got it, Professor. Promise!"
~~~~~
"Father?" Scorpius sighs. It's the Winter holiday of fifth year, a year since y/n visited. Draco and Scorpius's relationship has slowly started to mend itself. Scorpius's heart has begun to soften toward his father. He's been understanding what his father must feel like and Draco is grateful for that. They are not as distant anymore and often talk with each other and write letters back and forth when Scorpius is away at Hogwarts.
"Yes, Scorpius?" Draco asks, setting down his water goblet during dinner.
"How did you and Mother meet?" he asks.
"Oh, that's a wonderful story, Scorpius," Draco laughs. "The funny thing is, your mother hated me for the first half of our schooling."
"Wait... Mother hated you?" Scorpius gasped, surprised.
"Yeah. She did. With a burning passion," Draco admits, smiling. "I was an awful boy, really. And awful young man, too. I would constantly bully my underclassmen at Hogwarts. Everyone in the years below me feared me, I talked about muggle-borns and purebloods who talked to them like they were scum, and therefore, your mother absolutely hated me. She was always a pleasant one. She was always sweet and caring. She was the one who always stopped me midway through my bullying and, eventually, wherever I was, she was, too, breaking up the fights I would start. Each time I would go and bully someone, where she was shoving me up against the all screaming about ethics. It was amusing to watch many of my friends would say. They would all ask me, 'Hey, Malfoy! Why do you let yourself be bossed around by a girl?' and laugh. I didn't really mind her intervening. If it had been anyone else I would have ripped their head off."
Scorpius chuckles at this. Draco smiles in return, happy his son is enjoying the story.
"When did you two really get together?" Scorpius asks curiously.
"Ummm... In about fifth year. It was the time when Professor Dolores Umbridge was headmistress. She had an organization called the Inquisitorial Squad. It was a group of all Slytherins who would go around on patrols and catch any rule breakers. Like prefects, but meaner. During that year, I taunted a group of people in my year so much that y/n couldn't take it anymore..."
~~~~
"What is your problem Malfoy?" y/n shouts, pushing him up against the wall by his chest. "Why do you have to torment them so much? What motives to do have to make others miserable, huh?"
"Come on, y/l/n. I'm only having some fun! You want to deprive me of joy, but wouldn't that be unethical?" Draco laughs, tauntingly, earning a large eye roll form y/n.
"Joy at the expense of others is no laughing matter. It's cruel and inhumane!" she spits, glaring at Draco. "What will make you stop?"
"Nothing, y/l/n. I'm perfectly happy as it is. Potty, Weaslebee, and Mudblood deserved what they got," he smirks in satisfaction.
"Huh. You docked Harry points becasue you didn't like him. That hardly sounds like he deserved it!" she gasps.
"I don't like him, he deserves to be punished," Draco explains.
"Then why haven't you punished me then, hmm?" she asks. "Go on, take points from my house!"
~~~~
"I had always really admired y/n from afar. She was beautiful even when she was younger. I guess I was trying to show off for her when I bullied others. I wanted to show her how important and strong I was. Obviously, it was the wrong way to go about it, Scorp, let me tell you. She really did hate me."
"You sounded like you were an awful schoolboy, Father," Scorpius laughs. "I'm being honest here."
"Oh, I really, was, absoluely a slimy wretched boy. The day we got together was a marvellous one in my book. I had just realised I was falling for your mother."
~~~~
"Malfoy!" Theodore Nott shouts. "Hey, Malfoy! Watcha starin' at?"
"Huh?" Draco gasps, breaking his gaze away from y/n sitting across the Great Hall.
"Malfoy! Were you staring at y/l/n?" Blaise Zabini asks.
"N-no...," Draco stutters. "I was spacing at. Why would I be staring at her? She's ugly as fuck. Oh. Come on, we gotta go to classes."
The Slytherins all get up and file out of the Great Hall to Care of Magical Creatures, their classmates trailing behind them. Once there, y/n sits on a rock ledge to wait for Hagrid to come out.
"He's gonna get sacked any day now!" Draco laughs. "What a day that'll be! I'll be sure to brin popcorn!"
"Shut up, Malfoy!" y/n groans from her seat. "I'm tired of your rude, vile comments. Would you just be quiet for a day and let the rest of us have some peace and quiet? What'll get you to shut your trap?"
"I don't know y/l/n," he laughs. "I quite like talking."
"You're infuriating, Malfoy," she sighs. "Is there nothing that will get you to leave our underclassmen alone?"
"Ther is one thing...," Draco trails off. "...but only one."
"And that is...?" she continues.
"You go on five dates with me, y/l/n," Draco quips.
"Dates?!" y/n gasps. "You have been bullying first years ever since you were a first year and all you want to stop all of that is a few dates with me? Just you and me?"
"Yes, y/l/n," he says seriously.
"Malfoy? You want to go on five dates with that? Let alone one?" Crabbe grunts. Draco nods with a smirk on his face.
"You promise not to bully any of the people below us?" she asks uneasily.
"Yes, y/l/n. Go on five dates with me to Hogsmeade and I'll stop bullying them."
"Okay then!" she says smugly. "If you want five dates then you got 'em!"
~~~~
"Wow. It's such a cliché now that I say it, but it's true. We did go on those dates. The first one was a disaster, but eventually, she warmed up to me and by the fifth one, It was obvious that we liked each other. Each of our five dates was on the weekend in Hogsmeade. By the fifth one, it was routine so we didn't stop and became a couple. It's truly surprising that a girl like y/n could ever fall for such a prat like me," Draco sighs, finishing his water cup's contents. "God, I loved her so. You would have loved your mother. She was a wonderful woman. She was kind and gentle but could flare up passionately. I loved seeing the fire in her eyes every day. She would fight to the very end. During the war, she saved my life countless times, only for me to repay her by killing her. I guess I'm still alive now because, in her eyes, there is no debt to be paid on my end. She was phenomenal. I miss her every day..."
"She sounds amazing... I wish I could have known her better," Scorpius says.
"She was amazing, Scorpius... I-"
"Father! Look down! Something's happening in the garden! It's Mother's grave! Quick! Let's go!" Scorpius shouts. They both rush quickly outside where y/n's grave is glowing a bright blue light. The statue of herself is blowing and begins to crack. It bursts open, sending chunks of marble flying through the air. Draco and Scorpius both cough and cover their eyes as a cloud of dust forms. When the dust clears, y/n is standing there, breathing heavily in the position the statue was in. Her skin is not translucent or whispy. She isn't a spirit. Her skin is the normal colour and she looks exactly the same as when she died, wearing her elegant, black dress, just like the day at the ministry.
"Y-y/n?" Draco gasps.
"Draco!" she yells, jumping down from the altar into her husband's arms. "Oh, Draco!"
"You're here! You're alive! I can touch you!" he cries, tears of joy rolling down his cheeks. He takes her by her waist and presses his lips to hers with all the bottled up longing of thirteen years. "Oh, my God how I've missed this!" he says as he gasps for air.
She giggles into the kiss as Draco reluctantly pulls away and loosens his grip.
"Scorpius!" she cries, rushing forward, hugging her son. He wraps his arms around her and cries into her chest.
"Mother!" he gaps, his nose runny and small tears flowing down his cheeks. "I-Is this real?"
"Yes, Scorpius. This is real. It's me. I've returned," she says, as Scorpius lets go.
"H-How, my love?" Draco gasps. "I thought people couldn't come back after they died."
"There is a way but it's nearly impossible to get out," she says, sitting down on the bench where Draco would come to sit by her grave. "It's a long journey and there is no magic allowed. You must pass through seven gates, all guarded by demons and creatures of unspeakable horror. I just barely scraped by many times. That's why I was out of breath when I got here. I just passed through the gate between life and Death's door. The ride was a rough one."
"Wow, love. Sounds like you had an amazing journey," Draco laughs. sitting next to you. Y/n motions for Scorpius to sit down on her other side and they both wrap their arms around her.
"You're really back, aren't you mummy?" Scorpius says in his little kid voice jokingly. Draco and y/n both laugh and they all share a large group hug.
~~~~~
Back in the master bedroom after Scorpius has gone to sleep, y/n goes into the closet and puts on a sleek, black nightgown and climbs into bed Draco following her shortly after. He slides in and pulls her into his arms, feeling the warmth of her body next to his.
"Please tell me I'm not dreaming, y/n...," Draco sighs.
"You're not, Draco. I really am back," she whispers softly.
"It's been thirteen years since I've had another person next to me while I sleep. It feels nice and comforting...," he laughs. "Hey, y/n?"
"Hmmm?" she mumbles into his chest.
"Is it weird to you that you look twenty-seven and that I look like a decrepit forty-year-old man?" he asks. Y/n chuckles quietly into his chest.
"No, Draco. It doesn't. You're still you, only your hairline is a bit recessed and I couldn't care less about that. All I wanted was my husband and son back and now I've got them," she whispers.
"What happens when you die again? Do you get punished when you go back to the afterlife?" he asks, concerned.
"No, Draco. You only get punished if you fail. If you succeed, you earn the respect of Death," she whispers. before I was finally transported to the mortal world, I met with him. He took off his hood and that's when you know Death is being sincere."
"What did he look like?" Draco asks.
"I can't tell you that. You haven't earned it...."
"Aww...," Draco complains. "Please?"
"No, Draco... Goodnight, my love. Sleep well. I'll see you in the morning," she says with a smile, burying her face in his chest.
"You have no idea how much hearing you saying that means to me, y/n," Draco sighs, snuggling y/n close after twelve years of long waiting.
