"P what the hell are you doing here??" I ask.
"Mei, I missed you." He's trying to hug me.
Rome's looking at me puzzled, and then it hits him.
"Omg Yo?" Shit of course he's going to figure it out.
"Rome its Mei when in a dress." P'Brights explaining.
I grab him by his collar, and shake him.
"P' don't make me murder you, talk right this second. Why's Rome here as well?"
"I love it when your angry."
I count to ten in my head before I kick his leg.
"Ouch Nong," he's rubbing his leg.
"Rome why are you here with captain insanity dressed like that?"
"Do I look bad Yo?" He asks turning around.
Rome has a slim build and he looks really good in the dress and wig.
"You look cute Rome, but that's not the point." I add but Rome's supper happy, I sigh.
"Where did you get all this?" I ask.
"I asked N'Ming, we needed disguises." Then lowers his voice. "I'm using this party to infiltrate the club."
He is insane! I knew this why does it surprise me every time?
"What club?" I ask Rome. But he's interrupted.
"The chess clubs here Mei." he says in a whisper," I'm here to get there battle plans for the next competition in a few weeks. They cheated last year, I didn't want to do this but it has to be done."
"They sent a dog to the club that ate the pieces, the antique ones from the first completion held between the universities." Rome adds.
"We had to wait till he did his business to get them back. They will never smell the same again." P'Brights upset.
I have a headache. Am I some kind of a magnet for craziness?
"Why are you here?" Rome asks me
"It's P'New's sisters engagement party." I tell Rome, he's met the team and P'New already, and then turn to P'Bright. "You ruin this he will hunt you down."
"Come help us then." He says happily.
"Help with what?"
"We need to find the room; it will have a big desk with a big map that says 'Battle Plans'."
*Facepalm*
"P, that only happens in movies." Rome's telling him.
"It could happen." He says
"You could have just come in normal dress you know." I add.
"This is more fun, Mei my dear."
"He tried to get in before but the guards caught him, they might recognize him." Rome whispers to me. Of course.
"When did you join the chess club?" I ask Rome
"P'Bright asked me so.." He smiles.
Rome doesn't make friends easily, if he's following around the senior like this, he must really like him.
"Common Mei, time to infiltrate and get back our trophy and their battle plans."
"What trophy? You only said battle plans before." I snap as I follow them.
We end up near the back of the building, the sections looks older. The doors locked, P'Bright lock picks it, like in the movies.
"I bet this place has cameras." I say worried
"Nope, this is the old part no one comes here, they don't bother with any security just one guard to lock and check things for the club rooms."
"How the hell do you know that??" I ask.
"I dated this girl and..."
"Stop I don't want to know." Rome interrupts.
"Jealous?" He asks
"I will kick you again." I snap
We turn on a desk lamp and look around. I have no idea what the trophy looks like, P'Bright and Rome are both searching drawers looking for that. I notice a book that seems out of place in a cabinet. It has the same backing as the other books, but is new, unlike the old tombs and some scrolls. There's a weird honey smell coming from around the cabinet.
"What you looking at Mei?"
"You think that might have their plans in it?" I ask pointing at the book.
"Good idea, let's check." He's excited.
I stop him before he can touch the handle, it looks wet? I point that out. Rome puts on gloves and opens it, while P'Bright grabs the book and looks inside.
"Why do you have gloves?" I ask Rome.
"In case there were traps." He's totally into this.
"You were right Mei, this is it! I really wanted a big map that said battle plans on it." He sighs
I want to hit him. Rome finds the trophy, which is a small figurine of a bear standing on two paws, made from a light wood.
"This is the trophy??"
"The founder of the chess club hand carved it, it's priceless!" P sounds affronted.
Good thing I didn't join a club there crazy.
"You're a fourth year, aren't you too busy to be in clubs and doing these things p?" I ask
"It's memories, N'Mei. I want good things to tell my grandkids."
"If P'Arthit lets you live that long." Rome sighs
"Let's not tell him about our adventure shall we, he's a little to straight laced." He's patting Rome on his head. Ok there is defiantly an atmosphere around them.
"He's still friends with you; I give him credit for having that much energy." I add.
"Most of his energy is spent on Kongpob these days, in and out of there room."
"You need a filter." I say
"I'm saying how it is."
"Your jealous p?" Rome's asking.
"Dam straight. Common on universe, give me someone."
"I'm here p." Rome's smiling.
P'Brights hugging him, "You're a good kid Nong Rome."
"Let's just worry about getting out of here for now shall we?" I sigh. I need to talk to Rome.
We hear a voice asking who's in there. Shit. P'Bright jumps up, ready to fight. But Rome grabs him and puts his arms around his neck; I hide behind the low table. When the door opens, Rome quickly moves away from him and looks at the person. Pretending to be a little out of breath and embarrassed.
"We were just.... talking, we didn't think anyone....umm the door was open...sorry." Rome says haltingly, blushing. Wow Rome, I'm impressed.
The elderly guy's face has gone red.
"Oh, umm yeh, the clubs done for today I need to lock this room. You can't be in here."
"Ohh umm of course, we'll go, I bet there looking for us at the party, I can't see my purse." Rome's sounding so embarrassed.
The guards getting uncomfortable, "I'll go get the keys, you better be gone when I get back." he says before walking away.
Rome peeks out of the door, when he turns the corner we make a run for it.
"What's he red for? Two girls in a room that late, shouldn't that be suspicious?" He's asking Rome.
"Who seemed to be making out." he reply's
"Ooohhh .......... You're so smart Rome." He gives him too thumbs up.
"I saw it in a drama." He's smiling back.
I go back to the party, they follow. The trophy is in my purse, Rome's was too small, P'Bright hid the note book in his....he hid it. I hope P'New is doing okay.
Were back near the same benches, someone's there arguing a little way off. I don't think they saw us.
"Are you trying to ruin my life? Are you going to say anything to his parents?" a girl is asking angrily.
"You know he's the reason I came out to mum and dad." It's P'New.
"You're not together now! And he loves me; it was a mistake with you he told me."
"You don't know what he's really like." Wow P'New's supper pissed.
"I can take care of myself, I don't think of you as a brother, don't interfere in my life." She stomps off.
"What a bitch." P'Bright says to us, then moves out.
P'New's looking at the two new comers puzzled, but before he can ask P'Peach comes over.
"What's that about New?" He doesn't answer. "Don't be stubborn please tell me."
When he still doesn't answer, she looks pleadingly at me. I look at P'New; he can't say it but doesn't stop me. I go closer to her, "Rook is P'New's ex." I say.
Her sharp inhale of breath says it all.
"He's the reason isn't he? But he didn't tell his family? That little gutter weasel, now he's dating Mim? I'm going to....."
Her fiancés is there, she quickly tells him, he looks pissed.
"Leaving New? Not even a hi to an old friend?" It's Rook, he's smirking.
Mim is there a second later, attached to his side. P'Peach looks ready to kill, her fiancé holding onto her.
"You bought...3 girlfriends New? Even I'm not that good."
"There his friends, I invited them." P'Peach defends.
"He never should have turned up." The older idiots back.
I can see the look on P'New's face he wants to go.
"New its best if you take your girlfriend and go." Someone says apologetically to him.
"Girlfriend? Just bought her to try and act normal. You'll never be that New." His brother snorts.
"We all know you can't please a girl." The bastard ex is smirking.
Ok I've reached my limit. But before I can say anything P'Bright jumps in.
"Don't listen Newwie, you please me just fine." He says, then grabs P'New and kisses him.
I hear glasses hitting the floor.
